Week one Complete of Insulin shots...

Ok so it's been a week of shots for Buddy and Jim and I are beat.

We wake up a half hour earlier and feed the cats. Give them 1/2 hour to eat then give Buddy his shot.

Doctor visit and tests: $297
Drugs and Needles : $55
Special food for Buddy: $60

Its kinda hard. The little guy (Sparky) acts like we're starving him. Buddy acts like we hate him but does take his shots ok. And both act like they've never seen food when we do feed them.

We are also coming to terms with this commitment in our lives. I have several conventions in a year which take Jim and I away from home. That means we have to board Buddy because of his needs. Sparky I can have cat sit, but I can't trust anyone I know of to give Buddy his shots.

I know very well when you adopt an animal you take on all the possiblities of illness in their lives and it's not like Buddy's dying but Jim and I want kids and we keep seeing ourselves juggling an sick cat, a small kitten/cat and a child and think we just can't handle it.

*sigh*

I sure hope it gets easier.
And heaven help us if its a choice between feeding ourselves and getting insulin for the cat!

*fingers crossed*

Ugh- hang in there! I don't know if it gets easier - but i think you learn to incorporate it into your life.

My oldest cat doesn't need shots (thank goodness) but she gets special food and I have to get urine samples from her regularly.

On top of that, we found a pregnant domestic bunny who was injured and she had her babies. We now get up an hour earlier (5 am!!) to feed everyone and clean cages and boxes and do whatever else needs to be done.

It's all worthwhile when they curl up on my lap after a long day at work
Good luck!
