Weekday wedding

Weekday wedding

What are your opinions about a Thursday ceremony and reception? I'm thinking about June 1, 2006. Here's a brief explanation on why I'm considering it...I have 290 people I HAVE TO invite, I'm on a tight budget, I want an outdoor wedding so the temperture has to be right, I don't have too many out of towners and my FH's taste is very expensive!
Initially we were going to have a destination wedding which everyone we are close to was happy to attend but my father wasn't crazy about it and he's helping us out. So if my guest can go away then I was thinking a weeknight wedding wouldn't be so bad.

Re: Weekday wedding

I know that's becoming popular now due to the high costs of June weddings. If it's later in the day it's ok, people will take a long weekend and enjoy themselves. It's not ideal but for what they're charging for Saturdays and now even Fridays/Sundays, having it on a Thursday really makes a difference!

I think weddings should be kept to Friday, Saturday, and Sunday - depending on who's invited and what type of jobs they have - it's tough to make it to work on that Thursday - one day off of work is fine - but not two.

It's also inconvient for the Bridal party - they'd have to take at least three days off.

If it's the cost that's worrying you - there are others ways to cut costs and have it on the weekend.

If at all possible, I'd try to do a Fri/Sat/Sun--try an afternoon out over an evening. Thurs. is just rough b/c people have to leave work early and then after a late night of dancing/drinking/celebrating have to wake up to go to work the next day (although some would take off).

Don't hate me, but I agree. I think a thursday night woudl be very hard unless you don't have a lot of out of towners. For me, over 70 percent are from out of town and it just wouldn't work with many of them.

sorry, IMO, Saturday is the day for weddings. If need be, guests are already being inconvinenced by Friday/Sundays. So Thursday would be out of the question.

If it is the cost you're worried about and you are flexible on the time of year, I would suggest the 'off season'. My wedding is in January, and we are getting price breaks left and right. Of course, i have to worry about a blizzard, but, we're throwing a wedding that I wouldn't be able to afford in June. Also, the hotels, etc. are cheaper for your OOT guests.

Just a thought.....
Good luck!

Well, January won't do for that! Thurs. night could be great - people might have to call in hungover on Friday, but it could work. You might have to expect that some people won't be able to make it to the ceremony becuase of work, though.

Re: Weekday wedding

Well…we are having a Thursday evening wedding (June 29, 2006). The biggest reason we’re doing a Thursday is the cost. We in no way wanted to settle on the time of year or time of day. We wanted a summer evening wedding. So we chose to “settle” on the day of the week. We received quotes anywhere from $95-125 for a Saturday evening and anywhere from $80-100 for a Friday evening (not just at Jericho Terrace, but other locations too).

I do not have any regrets about it. I did at first, but now, it’s not even a concern. I did have someone say to me “That’s a Saturday?” I replied no, and my mom (who was right there) said, “No, it’s a Thursday” in a very excited tone! Our wedding happens to fall in a VERY good spot…schools (in NY) end the week before and it’s the Thursday before Forth of July “weekend”. Forth of July falls on the Tuesday after our wedding.

Please feel free to FM if you have any more questions/concerns!!

ETA: My family and friends that I want to be there have NO problems with it being a Thursday! And the majority of my family lives OOT. I am sending STDs this July, so people can plan accordingly if they are attending. Church will be at 3:30 (we all know that 80% of local guests don't go to the ceremony) and the CH starts at 7. So for locals that can't or don't want to get out of work early, they can skip the ceremony and hit the reception!

Re: Weekday wedding

I agree with the above post.

We are getting married on Monday, July 4th at 11 am.

Sorry but SAturday night for the same menu at my hall is almost three times the price. We are professionals who make good money, in our mid to late 30's and our parents are NOT footing the bill. While we have saved all of our lives and are not going into debt on this wedding, not having a Saturday night wedding is saving us over $10K on the reception alone. Yes, we have a small house that needs major repairs but we also don't have several years to rebound our savings accounts so we can save and have children. We will need to buy a bigger house in a couple of years and our priority is staying in our school district.

Oh and yes, we were brutal with the guest list... we might meet our minimum of 100 not one more. My cost pp is under $75, including tax and service.

I think if yiur weekday is around a holiday and you send out STD's early it isn't as much of a problem.

We are having our wedding on Monday, Sept 5 which is labor day and I do think having a weekday wedding makes sense. Honestly, I have had friend who had their weddings on Sat and Sundays and people still complain. You need to do what makes you happy and remember anyone who really wants to be there, will be there.

I do agree, save the dates are key and I would recommend sayin Thurs, June 1 on the save the dates (we did that on ours and got positive feedback since it is an unusual day.)

I think it makes perfect sense. Go for it. I would have no problem attending a Thursday wedding.

As long as I didn't have to travel far I wouldn't mind too much. I would be kind of disapointed that I couldn't party that much since the next day is work. Unless it was for someone very close to me - then I would take off. IMO it is a lot to ask of your guests but you know what is right for you and your family.

Guests will come to your wedding REGARDLESS of what day your wedding is on....Yeah, Thursday may be more difficlut for some guests,,but the ones that can make it will..That is a chance you have to take by having your wedding on a Thursday

I also dont think Friday or Sunday weddings are an inconvenience on the guests..

ETA: I would rather attend a wedding on a Thursday night rather than on a 3 day holiday weekend ..JMHO

I completely agree FH's uncle got married on a Thursday and from what I heard (it was 26 years ago) though people were shocked at first, they went b/c they wanted to go to the wedding.

My wedding is on a Wednesday. (Day before Thanksgiving) some people have off, some don't. To be honest, it is your day and if they want to be there they will be. If they take the day off, great, but if they don't, don't be suprised. THey need to realize how expensive weddings are and if they don't want to take the day off, then they aren't that close anyway... Do what you can afford!!! You will never be able to please everyone. If it's not the day they don't like, it will be something else. Everyone seems to have an opinon on just about everything. Stick to your guns and what you want! It's your day!

I've been to a wedding on a thursday and it gave me a reason to take off that Friday... Go for it if that's what you want.

Do what you want it's your wedding.

But watch your guarentee. If you are inviting 290 for a Thurs night, more than 20% probably won't come. Maybe ask some family and friends if they would attend before guarenteeing. I would hate to pay for more people than I had to!

If they really want to see you get married, they will take the day off.

Re: Weekday wedding

I guess I am in the minority with this one. I know people would still attend, I would just rather have my guests partying hard in a Knights' of Columbus on a Saturday, then worrying about work the next day in a hall. Also, I think holiday weekends are completely different. June 1, 2006, won't be a holiday weekend.
