Re: Weekday wedding

I would comprise on somethings but I definately wouldn't have my wedding on a weeknight. Your guests will definately have something to say.

You should do whatever is best for you and FH, but you should also be understaning if people are unable attend. I know some people say that if someone REALLY wants to be there they will, but that's not always the case. I REALLY want to be at my friend's bridal shower in NJ, but I can't b/c I have a bar exam review course that day and I can't put my future in jeopardy for the party. Sometimes no matter how much people want to go, if their jobs will not permit them to take the day off (ex.- there is a business meeting or trip that has mandatory attendance) then you can't expect them to put their jobs/livelihood at risk.

I know what you mean because some people when I tell them my wedding is on Friday they are like' what a Friday' I gotta see if I can get off of work that day and so forth. But in the end it is your day you do what you want. Luckily we having an evening wedding ceramony starts at 5:30 and receptian starts at 7:00 pm so people in NY don't really have to take off work maybe leave a little early or something

Good Luck with everthing though I am sure the people that matter will be there

I guess I am in the minority with this one. I know people would still attend, I would just rather have my guests partying hard in a Knights' of Columbus on a Saturday, then worrying about work the next day in a hall. Also, I think holiday weekends are completely different. June 1, 2006, won't be a holiday weekend.

And I would rather have my wedding at a reception hall on a Thursday night rather than at the KOC just to say my wedding was on a Saturday night..

Again,,these all personal opinions and everyone is entitled to one..Everyone does what they can..and that is fine

We are getting married July 3, 2006, Monday. I don't think a weekday wedding is an issue at all. Have the wedding you want ot have; your guests will attend.

If you think your family can all make a Thursday night, then do it.

It's your day....if you choose to have a Thursday wedding your guests will understand because they love you and want to be there for your special day. They'll make arrangements to take off or go in late if need be. And you know what else, if they complain then you really don't need them there anyway!

I think it depends on what most of your family does for a living. Is it easy for them to take off both Thursday and Friday?

When it comes down to it, its your day and your decision. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I dont like the idea of a weekday wedding I think its rude to expect people to take the day off and they cant enjoy themselves because theyll have work the next day unless they take off then too, I definitly wouldnt do it. What about a saturday or sunday afternoon, that will be cheaper?

What are your opinions about a Thursday ceremony and reception? I'm thinking about June 1, 2006. Here's a brief explanation on why I'm considering it...I have 290 people I HAVE TO invite, I'm on a tight budget, I want an outdoor wedding so the temperture has to be right, I don't have too many out of towners and my FH's taste is very expensive!

If a Thursday night is what you can afford, go for it. Weddings in NY are expensive enough without picking a Saturday night. Not to mention, there are only 52 Saturday nights

Just try to keep your minimum low since some people may not attend if they can't get Friday off.

Good luck

Well…we are having a Thursday evening wedding (June 29, 2006). The biggest reason we’re doing a Thursday is the cost. We in no way wanted to settle on the time of year or time of day. We wanted a summer evening wedding. So we chose to “settle” on the day of the week. We received quotes anywhere from $95-125 for a Saturday evening and anywhere from $80-100 for a Friday evening (not just at Jericho Terrace, but other locations too).

I do not have any regrets about it. I did at first, but now, it’s not even a concern. I did have someone say to me “That’s a Saturday?” I replied no, and my mom (who was right there) said, “No, it’s a Thursday” in a very excited tone! Our wedding happens to fall in a VERY good spot…schools (in NY) end the week before and it’s the Thursday before Forth of July “weekend”. Forth of July falls on the Tuesday after our wedding.

Please feel free to FM if you have any more questions/concerns!!

ETA: My family and friends that I want to be there have NO problems with it being a Thursday! And the majority of my family lives OOT. I am sending STDs this July, so people can plan accordingly if they are attending. Church will be at 3:30 (we all know that 80% of local guests don't go to the ceremony) and the CH starts at 7. So for locals that can't or don't want to get out of work early, they can skip the ceremony and hit the reception!

I Agree!!!!!! I'm having mine on a Thursday in November, and all of my family and close friends were happy for us, and wouldn't think of missing it because it's on a Thursday. I figured if people want to be there, they will. It's one day out of the year to celebrate, and people take off from work for far less important things!!!!

If at all possible, I'd try to do a Fri/Sat/Sun--try an afternoon out over an evening. Thurs. is just rough b/c people have to leave work early and then after a late night of dancing/drinking/celebrating have to wake up to go to work the next day (although some would take off).

i agree too. we thought about it but 95% of fh's guest list is in the service (air force, guard, all that) and is hard for them to take off --- the base wouldn't operate that day! also, i found out it was only $10 cheaper/head to do it on thurs instead of sun

we were offered a thursday wedding at fox holoow with alot of extras for more than HALF what a saturday was but we stuck with friday at the riviera instead. its not a bad idea.

ONLY $10 cheaper per head That's like $2K if your guarantee is 150 guests (adding tax & gratuity).

If the majority of your guests can make it on a Thursday (local people more so than OOT I suspect) then go for it.

I have to say I never care what day people have their weddings on. I just love to go to weddings. To tell you the true the last three weddings I have been to have been on a Friday night or Sunday. I never cared and either did the guests.

I have to be honest and I would not like to go to the Thursday night wedding.....However I would go and probably end up having a good time. I think that it makes no difference and i think that because its the summer its easier for people to take off. Have fun and enjoy your Thursday night! Besides if people dont take off they only have one day of work left.

I am getting married the day after Thanksgiving, which will be a Friday Day wedding...Most people are off and our relatives will be in town for the holiday weekend so that is why it worked out so well for us!!! I think regardless of what day or time your wedding is, people will be there.
