This can be kind of a motivational thread. Would anyone like to share their weight goals, concerns, etc.? I'd like to loose 14 lbs. I'm not setting a concrete time frame for myself because otherwise I tend to overdo things but I'm hoping to be at my goal by this summer. I think that's kind of reasonable.

Re: Weight goals...
I've been doing WW for a little over two years now and overall I've lost a total of just under 45 pounds (though I've put a few of those back) CW: 153 Goal: 140ish
As far as eating healthy goes, I've come to the conclusion that there really is nothing better. If you really stick with it, it works!
For excercise like ilovebriani was saying the best bet is cardio and weight lifting. If you're looking for a good set of tapes that are fun, doable yet challenging check out THE FIRM. They say you see results in 10 workouts and the best part is your really really do. It's a workout routine of three tapes (probably dvd's now) that combines weight training with cardio. I think I'm up to workout #7 or 8 and I already feel a lot better. I've done past the 10 before which is why I know that what they say is true.
Definitely worth looking into if you don't have the funds for gym membership like me!

Well, I have a lot more work to do than most of you girls, but I think I can do it. I've struggled all my life with weight, but never really tried too hard to loose it because my family is all overweight. I just kept telling myself that it was genetic. Well, ever since I got engaged, I have been really trying hard! I don't really know what I weigh right now, but the last time I went to the doc's I was 222. My goal is to get down to 150-160. I know I have already lost weight since my last doc visit, but I haven't weighed myself. My mother and I started a diet a few weeks ago, and I have been doing really well on it. Monday we start our workouts. We are going to be doing a mix of 'walk away the pounds' tapes and 'windsor pilates' tapes in the morning, and then I play DDR on playstation at night. That really gets me going! I love a FUN workout. I know I have a lot of work ahead of me, but with support and determination....I know I can do it!
I've been playing ddr 3 or more times per week- that game kicks my ***!!!!
That's an awesome game!

i used to do similar to what Denise was talking about....i used to be soooo good about going to the gym, i would also go at least 4-6 times during the week, once you go so often it just becomes second nature...but, then when my schedule got busy i couldnt go as much. I go to a 24 hour gym, so i sometimes would try to go in the AM when i didnt have time to go after work. (it was hard getting up early at first...5am, but again, after a while, it became a routine). Since i got engaged i have been slacking big time! i have not gone to the gym since the holidays!! i sometimes do a workout at home though, i do weight circuits....ie: alternate weightlifting with cardio.
I would recommend....it is best to combine weight lifting with cardio. The more muscle you build, the faster your metabolism will become. You might gain a little weight from lifting weights, but you WILL lose inches! and you will become very toned! trust me, you will notice a difference! If you just do cardio you will lose weight, but your body will look the same, only smaller....so strength training is a must!!
Also...if you start working out a lot...make sure you are eating enough! Otherwise...your body will have to start breaking down muscle to get it's energy....you should be eating at least 1500 calories a day if you are exercising! maybe more....it depends on your weight really....there are calculators online to figure out how many caloires oer day for your activity level. Try fitness magazine website...they have good calculators.
Food recommendations....again, if you are working out you need to be eating a good ratio or proteins to carbs. DO NOT avoid carbs! you will need them to fuel your workouts. A good snack is a mixture of the two... ie: apple and peanut butter, almonds and apple, cottage cheese with granola/whole grain cereal in it) whole grains are the best carbs. airpopped popcorn is a good one, egg whites are great b/c they have lots of protein and no cholesterol, grilled chicken, oatmeal with no added sugar (it's good with fruit in it for flavor) lean turkey meat instead of beef to make meatballs/meatoaf, whole wheat pasta, brown rice, steamed veggies, oh.....and olive oil is real good for you! it lowers your cholesterol, so do almonds! I would also avoid too much sugar and bleached flour.
I get very into this health stuff....i could go on and on....i need to get back on the bandwagon too...it's easy to fall off, but once you get started, after a few weeks...you will notice a HUGE difference!! you will have TONS of energy, and you will want to excercise....and your body will not crave all the sugar and junk!
YES!!!!!!!! i always add weights, and also strength training is the best, and you will see results quicker.
I also strongly agree about the whole working out and no carbs thing-PLEASE DONT DO THIS!!! you need carbs if you are working out, why do you think they feed pasta to marathon runners beforehand...You can end up fainting and feeling very weak. Its not good to do to your body at all.

Re: Weight goals...
Definitely lots of good advice on here. But how is it possible that so many of you girls want to drop to 110 or so pounds? Are a bunch of you really petite? I'm not trying to be mean, but that is soooooo skinny - just want to make sure you're being healthy and are keeping up the strength you need to make vendors cower before you and offer you lower rates.
I agree with what you girls said about Pilates - I've been doing weights and cardio for 10 years, but about 2 years ago added Pilates into my routine, and my body really changed shape. It makes you look taller and leaner ( you improve your posture and carry yourself better, in addition to having more sculpted muscles). After about 6 months of it, one day someone at work came up to me and asked if I was a dancer (I'm SOOOOO not) - that's the 'look' that Pilates gives you. It's awesome.
I have a couple of Pilates tapes that I do at home that I really like. Kathy Smith has a good one for Abs and for Legs. Plus, I have a 'Crunch' tape that's called 'Fat Burning Pilates' which isn't true Pilates but incorporates a lot of its moves into a cardio workout, and after it you don't feel sweaty and wiped out; you feel really energized.

Re: Weight goals...
In June of 2005 I joined Weight Watchers with my mom weighing 180 pounds. Between June and September I went down to about 146, without excersizing. In between summers I ALWAYS pack on waaaaay to much weight so after I went on vacation in Sept. 05 I went back up to about 160 and back down to 150 in time for vacation in Sept. 06. In the midst of all this weight loss I was never really happy with the way I looked because I'm lazy and cannot motivate myself to exersize and tone up more.
Now...I weigh about 165 and I feel lethargic mostly everyday because my eating habits suck, it's cold outside and all I want to do is eat potatoes, pot pies and comfort foods and ice cream. I haven't really exersized in years and I really want to start but getting up and about in the winter is tough and like one of the other girls said Will Power and I were never friends.
Ideally, I'd like to be about 125-130 because I feel that it's realistic for me. So I've got a good 25-30 pounds to go. I'd like to go back to Weight Watchers soon because I feel that paying money and having to 'face the scale' only once a week really helped out.

i am barely 5'4' - but i have a tiny frame. like my ankles and wrists look like a small childs lol
i currently weight between 115-120. but if i gain like half a pound it shows RIGHT away. ESP in my tummy area. so 110 is not extremely skinny for me. actually i weighed less than 100 lbs until i went on BC ( thats what i got boobs so i am not complaining! lol)

Re: Weight goals...
I'm 5'6 and overweight....so a couple of pounds aren't really noticible....but that's my problem. 10-15 lbs for me is like 5-7 lbs for a lot of you.
