Weight Watchers...again

Original post by Thrilled

Just ignore if you don't want to read this...
I have tried and failed WW now 6 times. I checked my bank balance yesterday and saw that WW had put through the online service (which I had approved and asked them for etc) and I took it as a sign to go ahead and give it one last go. ON top of that Fergie was on Larry King Live last night and she looks friggin fabulous...another sign.

So I need lots of support!!! Let's hang in there together. I'm getting married 9-6-03, so the way I figure it, I have about 34 weeks or so to lose 25-40 lbs, which can be done! HELP ME GIRLS!

Re: Weight Watchers...again

Sage, peanut butter is 2 points per tablespoon, but it depends how you define tablespoon. WW has it as a thumbs first knuckle, which I think is less than a table spoon. I will actually go and measure it tonight (i.e. fill up a tablespoon, not going over the top, just flat) and see if its same as the knuckle.

What I like to do, esp. when watching TV or doing something mindless is to lick the peanut butter off the spoon, it prolongs my sweet food experience!!!

Its also good, b/c its fattening, but good fat and good cholesterol, and fat blocks hunger receptors, so if you have a spoonful you will not be hungry after waiting 20 mins to let the brain recognize it.

What kind of foods do you like?

I'm at 12 points so far.

Bkfst - 2 waffles - 3 pts
Syrup - 1 pt
Cranberry Juice - 1 pt

Lunch - Sandwich - Turkey and low fat cheese - 5pt
Carrots - 0 pts

Snack - Orange - 1pt
Raisins - 1pt

Sounds like alot of food but it isn't!

Well - I love peanut butter, but for the most past I crazy salty foods...that is why I really need to go out and get some 'smart ones'...
I am a ****er for a cheeseburger and fries so I need a salty alternative that will help my cravings....

I have been having lowfat popcorn....
The blsamic on my veggies today was a pretty good salt fix...
And I LOVE to take tuna and mix it with lemon juice, salt and alot of pepper and mix it with lettuce and maybe have a melba toast on the side....
YUMMY

What are some of your other secrets?

Fletch -
How many slices of turkey? that kind of thing always confuses me?

I love Turkey sanwiches and I put onions, tomatoes, lettuce and hot peppers on it to give my tastebuds a kick!

Re: Weight Watchers...again

Hm, one medium unsweetened pickle is 0 calories.

I also like putting salt on my veggies, or sometimes dipping them in salt a little, especially cucumbers, broccoli and tomatoes and well celery.

Also 10 small or 6 large olives is only 1 point.

Have you tried soy nuts? I think a handful (1/4 of a cup) is 3 points (hm, but I think they're healthier than that).

Also Black Bean Guiltless Tortialla chips ==> they healthy but salty/spicy?

15 small pretzles are good for the salt crave. 2 points for that

Re: Weight Watchers...again

Let me tell you what helped me immensely! Buying a scale at WW.....seriously, it was a godsend. When I buy turkey from the deli (Boar's Head Maple Honey for example), I weigh it before I eat it. WW says that 4 ozs is 2 pts. That's a ton of turkey. BTW - another rule of thumb is that chicken is one point per ounce, cooked. 4 ozs=4 pts. I THINK. Let me check my thingamajigger.

PS - I bought the Supermarket Points guide and it was super duper helpful. I would recommend buying that as well as a scale. Instead of just saying 'cheese' is 3 pts for 1 oz, it will say 'Kraft Cracker Barrell Extra Sharp CHeddar=' etc. I loved it.

Re: Weight Watchers...again

Those are GREAT ideas....especially the pickle....don't ask me why I never thought of that, but I LOVE pickels!!!!

Where can you get those tortilla chips?

As for pretzels, I lick the salt off and then toss them....do I still get points for salt?

Chippatrid - I wish I knew....how can we find out?

Re: Weight Watchers...again

I have a digital scale that cost me like, $29.95 (available at Weight Watchers meetings and probably online too).

Originally I bought one back in the day that cost me like $11.95 but it just had a little platform with a needle that showed the weight. It wasn't as accurate. Now that I've used my scale, I can eyeball an amount when my scale is not available and basically figure that its 4-5 ozs, because I now know what 4-5 ozs looks like.

Re: Weight Watchers...again

Sage, the tortilla chips are sold in my supermarket, C-Town, which i think is local to brooklyn... I believe they can be found elsewhere, if not in a regular supermarket, then at the gourmet kind (They're about $2.49/7 oz bag).

As to licking salt off of pretzels, check the calories on your salt box when you get home... I expect it to be 0 points, but I may be off.

Salt makes you bloated and retain water, so don't over do it.

Re: Weight Watchers...again

Sage - I eat Boars Head Honey Maple Turkey and I have sort of worked out 2 slices for like 1pt. Like Thrilled said when you weigh out the amount they say you can have, it turns out to be a ton of turkey.

What's also helpful is the Food Calculator on the wesite. You can put in the necessry info and it calculates the points for you. Also, you can put in the name of something and if it is in their library it will tell you the points.

Re: Weight Watchers...again

Thrilled,

You are right about the 1oz=1pt.

When I buy turkey from the deli dept at the supermarket, I always have it packed up by 1/4 pound, this way it is easier for me to figure out the number of points. So the 1/4 pound is 4 points and if I have half it would be 2 points. Just a tip that works for me.
