weird cc ?

i order breakfast from the same deli pretty much every morning - same guy answers the phone everyday.

this morning i just called and a girl answered. i give her my order, my CC # and expiration and she asked for the 3 digits on the back of the card? so i know my amex # by heart - and asked why do you need it? i have to pull out my card now - and made it like it was a HUGE deal so she would just leave me alone and put the order through. but she said - no sorry i need it to put the card through.

now - did i just give too much info? or is this girl just new and not know what she is doing?

HELP - i dont need to deal w/ cc theft over egg whites and coffee!!

it's a security feature that people are asking for on phone and online purchases.

the guy probably doesn't ask you B?C he knows you, but she wasn't stepping out of line by doing so.

When you go and get it, ask the person at the counter!

You're fine Tricia, Jess is right. It's just a security feature to make sure that you're actually the card holder. As opposed to someone who just memorized your account # and is trying to make fraudelent charges. You have nothing to worry about, she was doing the right thing.

Don't worry - depending the machine and the deal you have, entering that code actually gives you a slightly better discount rate when p[the merchant is ]processing the purchase. You can bypass it a lot of the time but it'll cost you a tiny bit more - it adds up over time.

This is true. I get asked for the 3 digit security feature all the time.
