Weird or not?

Weird or not?

I just got an invitation for a shower. Its for a girl I have never really met. Its the fiance of a friend of DH's. They came to our wedding. But the girl did not even say anything to me. We have never hung out socially. I certainly did not invite her to my shower.

Isn't it odd that I got invited? The invitation does not say 'surprise' or anything on it.

That's a little weird but maybe the person in charge of the invites is inviting everyone who's invited to their wedding?

I voted not weird just because some people invite everyone they plan on inviting to the wedding to the shower also.

Some people believe that you should invite ALL females that will be invited to the wedding

I voted not weird. But you def do not have to attend..maybe she wants to become more friendly with you?

I never heard of that before. I am definitely not going....I don't know anyone including the bride!!

before fh was my fh, and i was his gf, alot of his friends' wives invited me to their showers. sometimes i didnt go if i wasnt close with the person. so i guess its not really that weird.

Some people invite everyone who is invited to the wedding, or everyone who is sort of close..maybe they invited you because your DH is close with her FH, and they did it to honor that.

not technically weird given the way some people interpret the 'rules' of a shower, but I would be weirded out if I got one...I would think fishing for gifts. I already feel bad that people close to me have to do a shower and a wedding gift - I would have issues if my mother wanted to invite people i didn't know.

I voted weird. To me, a shower is for people who are family or close friends. To get invited to a shower for someone you don't know is weird in my book. I doubt that I would go and I also think it may be fishing for gifts, JMO.

OK-- you def do not have to go... but-- she may have included you cause her fiance thought it would be nice to have you there..

I know I invited some SO's of FH's friends-- but they are all girls I am friendly with--

I do think it a little inappropriate that you got an invite.. just weird.

Andrea, is your husband in the wedding party? If so, I can understand why you were invited. I've been invited to showers for people I barely knew if my FI was a member of the wedding party.

He was not asked yet. We are not sure whether he will be or not because this is the guy's second marriage. DH was in the first wedding. This guy was a GM at our wedding. So we aren't sure.

Well, if he is asked, I understand why you were invited to the shower.

My fiance and I have actually been debating something similar. He has a close friend who will likely be asked to be in the wedding party. I've only met his wife once. I know the wives of the other groomsmen well and all but one will be invited to the shower (I cannot tolerate one of them). My fiance wants me to invite the wife I do not really know b/c he worries that it'll look bad if all of the others (with the exception of the evil one) are invited and she is not.

My outlook is that it looks as though I want a gift. Not only do she and I barely know one another, but she wouldn't know a single person at the shower. Obviously she wouldn't attend, but I don't want her to feel as though she has to send a gift.

It could very well be that your husband's friend asked whoever is hosting the shower to include you.

not only do i think it's weird, i think it's plain wrong! then again i am totally against inviting ALL women (who will be invited to the wedding) to the shower. i don't know many of the family member who my mom wants to invite to my wedding and i've made it certainly clear they are NOT to be invited to my shower. i can't imagine how awkward it would be to show up to a social event where you don't know ANYONE including the bride! i feel like they are just looking for another gift. to me, a shower is for close family members and close friends. and even that's hard to sit through....

NYTherapist-

I would only invite her if you would think she would want to attend. When my mom does not get invited to some things, she is relieved because she hates to go to showers.

Oh, she's off the list. I just mentioned it to try to put your situation in a different light.

If I were in her shoes, I'd be annoyed if I were invited.
