FH and I are getting married in a Catholic church. Someone was recently telling me that it is etiquette to invite the priest who marries you to your reception. I think I might have heard this once before but I'm not sure how true it is. Any input? Are any of you girls planning on doing this?

Re: Weird Question (sort of)...
i guess it depends on how close you are with the priest.
i'm inviting our priest to the reception, but he's a family friend, so it's a different situation

Re: Weird Question (sort of)...
I thought that was more with Jewish weddings. I know a few ppl of that faith who have done it. I dont think its needed if its not someone who you are close with. I know my sisters DH is Jewish and the rabbi told them he wanted a limo to and from the church and also an invite for him and a guest to the reception....needless to say they didnt use him....

Re: Weird Question (sort of)...
i have definitely heard this. i will be sending my priest an invite. we are not at all close, but i have known him since i was a baby, so i guess ill be doing it as a formality. i also want to invite the pope so he can send me a blessing lol (you really can do that)
eta: unless the priest is a close family freind, they usually decline.

Re: Weird Question (sort of)...
Thanks, girls. I guess it is something to continue thinking about. 'My church' is where I grew up but too far from RH and where I live now. My FH's church will be in the middle of renovations for our wedding so we are getting married by the deacon of FH's church's son who is a priest in a different parish (sorry that is so confusing). Anyway, he also happens to be my mom's co-worker's brother-in-law.
Wow! I definitely did realize how complicated that would be to explain. I will probably just invite him as a courtesy/formality. Although I am not close with him, I think he is great and FH and I plan on continuing to attend the same church after we are married, have kids, etc.

Well, I'm not catholic but FH is Lutheran and we are inviting our officiant to the reception. I don't think he will come, but at least the invite is there.

Re: Weird Question (sort of)...
I think some people do... and more so if you have a pre-existing relationship (ie you knew him growing up)...
We are hiring an officiant to marry us and we are getting married at the RH. We do not plan on inviting him to the reception.

Re: Weird Question (sort of)...
we're Russian Orthodox & we did invite our priest, but he had vesper services later in the evening that he had to be there for in the church. But for us at least it is proper etiquette to invite him.
