Weird thing that happened to my friend at a wedding

My best friend from Maine recently went to a wedding with her serious boyfriend (not yet engaged but happily living together for 4 years.) He was a groomsman and he knew a bunch of people there. She had met a couple of the people a few times, but most of them were in the wedding party. During teh reception, they ahd her sit at a different table than him!! She was sitting at a table with random people she didn't know, and he was sitting at the head table. She said it was the most awkward night ever! Isn't that weird!?

That is weird...not to mention absolutely awkward. Sometimes it makes me wonder if people think about the awkwardness that they create when they do stuff like that...

I had it happen one time & it started a really big fight afterwards. We were all friends with the B&G and the wifes or girlfriends of the GM were sitting at a table by the kitchen. We were more then upset. Some of these girls I was sitting with had know the B&G for 10 plus years. Talk about weird & uncomfortable.

That happened to me once too. They had a head table. I think a lot of people outside the NYC area do that. But I can talk to anyone so I was fine! I would never do that to anyone though.

Do you mean he sat with the bridal party at a deus? (or however you spell it?)

That's not at all uncommon out of state. I can't stand it (I think BP should stay with their dates!!) - but it's not unheard of.

It's terribly annoying, though, and extremely uncomfortable for the BP's dates.

it's weird now, but traditionally that's how seating arrangements go. how awkward for her though!! i hope she got to spend time time with her BF!

I had a friend do a head table and she had the groom's brother (best man) at the head table, and his WIFE sat a separate table with me and some friends. She was good natured about it, but I could tell she was a bit put off - especially since I was a bridesmaid and got to sit at a separate table with my fiance.

That is very strange. When you say he was sitting at the head table do you mean that the whole BP was up front with the bride and groom??? If not and he was at a regular table I would have been upset if I was her. If they are a couple they should be placed together at the same table.

If he was at the 'main table' with the BP then she should have been seated at one of the closer tables.

Not weird, just awkward.
If there is a head table, then only the BP sits there. Significant others sit at other tables with the guests.

That is something that is commonly done outside of the NY Metro area. My cousin got married upstate and we sat at a dais and my FH sat with my parents at a different table. It used to be done around here too but times have since changed. Thankfully, for the better!

B&G used to have the bridal party at a dais (head table) even in the NY metro area I think, up until about 10-15 yrs ago when Sweetheart tables started coming into fashion.

I would never do it that way and wouldn't want to be separated from my 'date,' but it is something that is/was commonly done for some odd reason.

I am just having my fh and I sit at one table for this very reason. Sometimes a wonder wheter seating charts are the best thing. Its like being at a concert for your favortie band and wanting to be in the front row but having to sit so far back the band looks like a army of ants

Ya I think the bridal party was at a long head table type thing infront of everyone. And then their wives/dates were at other tables. my friend was put with random people she ahd never met before though and they were mostly couples. She is in my wedding party and called asking if she was going to have to sit away from her BF and asked where I was putting him- she just didn't want him to feel out of place not knowing anyone. She wasn't being pushy or mean about it to me. ANd I was like ummmm he will be sitting with you! haha.

Yeah I remember a long time ago the BP would sit at a dais table with the bride and groom... I haven't seen that in years - brides and grooms sit at a sweetheart table alone nowadays... I imagine that would be very awkward for the BP dates/significant others!

I didn't know they still do it out of state... I thought it was a tradition that died out all across the board lol

that's happened to me before, my FH was the best man and I had to sit alone with FH's family..which wasn't too bad...but although I wouldn't do this personally, my question is what other alternative is there for the Bride and Groom who want to sit at a dais with their bridal party?

that is horrible! oh no, now you have me worried since the whole thing about being invited to our friends wedding as a guest!! I would flip out if that happened to me.

FH's cousin did a similar thing last year- she put her BM at the head table with the rest of the bridal party and her boyfriend was at our table. I felt so bad for him- no one knew him and he didn' t know anyone.
