Welcome Packages....what are you including?
Dear Girls I was wondering if any of you are doing welcome packages for you out of town guests, you know the ones that you leave in their rooms with different treats. If you are thinking about doing this, what kinds of things are you going to include in yours? I'd love to know! Thanks! Vickfl77

Welcome Packages....what are you including?
Hi Vickfl77! I am planning on including 'welcome packages' for out of town guests. I'd like to include a map of the area, list of things to do for the weekend...easy and inexpensive if you print them yourself! We would also include bottles of water, cookies or chocolates, snack sort of things. We are hoping to book a summer wedding, so may include a small bottle of sun block or a beach ball-something to go along with our beach/seaside theme. What kind of ideas do you have????

Welcome Packages....What I'm doing.
Hi Vickfl77! This is what I am putting in my bags. LI Guide Brochures on local areas Train Schedule Bottle of Pindar Wine Postcards Candy/Snacks Personalized Magnet (With I Love NY Logo and our names and date on bottom) Bottle of water I think that's all the items. Can't remember. I'll probably do these for my wedding party and family and then other guests from out of town will get a modified version -- if I can afford it. A majority of my wedding party is coming from out of town.

How are you getting it to them?
Are you leaving them at the desk for the guests when they arrive?

How are you getting it to them?
Yes, just let the hotel staff/manager know that you want to do this and they should have it marked on the reservations. Just drop them by the day before maybe and make sure you put names on them.

What I think I'm including
Dear Girls To answer Stef28's question, this is what I'm thinking of including in my welcome packages. - Bottle's of water with the lables changed to have our name and wedding date on them - Map of the area - Local resturants information - Train schedule (LIRR) - Candy items like M&M's and others - Salty items such as chips, pretzles, peanuts, etc. - I really like the magnet idea I might have to steal that one - I also like the post cards idea, I might do this as well - Some sort of 4th of July item b/c that is when we are getting married. Thanks for all of the ideas girls! I knew I could count on you! Regards to everyone! Vickfl77

What I think I`m including
I just dropped off my gift bags last night at my hotel. I included little cards with the last name of the guest and check in date (hopefully, the hotel will be able to figure this out). We included mosturizer, bottled water, iced tea, cookies, chips, crackers, peanuts.

Baskets or gift bags?
How are you presenting the welcome packages? Are you putting the stuff in baskets or gift bags?

Great Ideas!!
I bought a ton of baskets (the kind you use for apple picking) and wrapped plaid ribbon around them. Then I tied some berries and foliage around the front and filled the bottom with Spanish moss. They look gorgeous! I`ll probably use a few extra for the bathroom toiletries at the reception. I love the idea of the bottled water with the label changed so I will likely try that (if I have time). Also like the magnet idea. In fact, I saw magnet paper (or something like that) at Staples that can go through a printer. Of couse the usual candy, mints and junk food will be provided. As well as a couple of apples, to go with the fall theme. I have also been collecting area pamphlets and NYC subway maps all year (many guest are coming from abroad and planning a big NY vacation). As well as a print out of local restaurant and LIRR train schedules. Thanks to Martha Stewart, I`ve also been making soap in bride and groom molds, heart, and star molds. My bedroom at home is covered in about 30 baskets. I can't wait to get rid of them!

Soap Directions (long)
I`m really pathetic and subscribe to her craft newletters and received it in an e-mail. If you can`t find it, I`ll post the directions right now: MATERIALS: Glycerin (found at craft stores) ice-cube trays (or chocolate molds. That`s where I got the bride and groom molds) liquid food coloring petroleum jelly cotton swabs microwavable container 1. Cut a piece of the glycerin to fit in the microwavable bowl. 2. . Smear a dab of liquid food coloring into the bowl or measuring cup with a cotton swab or coffee stirrer. Food coloring is very concentrated, so only use a tiny amount; try mixing different colors. 3. Heat the glycerin in a microwave on high, stirring at 15-second intervals, until it’s completely melted. (Careful, it melts quickly and I had it all over my microwave plate. Also, remember it is extremely hot, and the smell isn`t too pleasant). 4.Use a cotton swab to coat the inside of the ice-cube tray with petroleum jelly. Pour the melted glycerin into the tray, filling each section almost to the top. (I didn`t bother to use the jelly in the molds) 5. Cool for about 2 hours; the soap cubes will pop right out. (you actually may have to twist the tray for a bit. Maybe using the jelly will help.) I wanted to place them in burlap sacks, but with the wedding getting close, I don`t know what I`ll use.
