Well it happened to me too- invite related-UPDATED

Original post by july06bride

We got a response today from one of FMIL's friends and they responded YES, with their daughter who was NOT invited.

I called FH and he told me that the friend called his mother and said that there is no babysitter available for daughter so if she is not invited she cant come...and FMIL (who wanted this kid invited to begin with and whom we said IS NOT invited to begin with) told her okay... WELL IT IS NOT OKAY!

Yes, we are having kids at the wedding- they are FAMILY- Ex: Fh's 9 year old brother...NOT FMIL's FRIENDS DAUGHTER! Give me a fricken break!

she told me that if her friend doesnt come she wont come- of course it was out of anger - but I said, so You are choosing a friend over your son? She said, well you and your mother are making a big deal out of nothing...

Don't even get me started. We have already had two couples call and tell us that they don't have anyone to watchtheir children and that want to bring them to the wedding.

We are having an afternoon ceremony and reception. Do you mean to tell me that you never ever leave home without your child? And that in two months you can't a sitter to watch your child for an afternoon!!!?

I am soooo annoyed.

Then tell her to stay home. It's your wedding. If she wants to be like that-she can see the video later.

Your FMIL needs a reality check. It's not her call.

and..

does your FMIL's friend think you are stupid? Your FMIL obviously told her to do this. 'Just say you can't get a babysitter and I'll get her to say it's ok to bring her.' I could just hear it now.

I just had someone do that too - what is wrong with people? It is FH's second cousin's kid. FMIL said she is gonna call - honestly I wouldn't mind if we could afford to invite ALL the second cousins' kids, but we can't and I don't want to start a trend by allowing this one to come.

It just happened to me too.
I invited my cousin and his wife. I'm not too close to them and they live out of state. Well, my RSVP date was a week ago and they called up my mom to apologize that it wasn't sent out. But that they are coming to the wedding(my cousin and his wife) and that they are bringing their daughter too.

Ummmm....the invite was made out to Mr. and Mrs.xxxxx. Plus, the daughter is not like 5 and they need a babysitter she is like 25.

I just find it RUDE to take upon yourself to invite others to someone elses wedding.

OMG - they just invited their 25 year old daughter. That takes some set of brass balls. That is rude.

I agree! no offense, but your FMIL is being a selfish BEYOTCH! and she's not even paying, so she has no say. end of story.

It doesn't end with the invites either.

We made the choice to invite kids who were first cousins ONLY (DH's family has a lot, but I don't have any). I do, however, have 8 and 5 year old SECOND cousins. So, after the wedding their was mucho bitching from my cousin b/c their were kids the same age as her kids there.

Meanwhile, she had NO KIDS at her wedding AT ALL!

IMO, it all depends on who is paying for the wedding.

In this case, her folks are paying, they have the final say about guests. Her FMIL is completely out of line!

it turned ugly... but push comes to shove and she got her way, the kid is coming, my mom saw/heard how upset I was getting over this and she told her forget it jsut bring her, I am so upset with the things FMIL said to me, especially since I considered us to have a good relationship. Its a mess right now, I am so sad! Fh is put in the middle and really doesnt want to be, but has to be, he doesnt want to fight with his mother, which I understand, but some of the things she did and said were wrong... he knows that.

I wanted no kids at the wedding whatsoever but I let DH's one 7 year old cousin come because they are really close and all but MIL knew other than that there were NO KIDS - so what does she do - the day of the wedding she let's her one niece bring her 1 year old to my wedding and I didnt notice it until during the second dance. So as I walked off the dance floor I said 'Who is that baby' and she tried to say something and I just said 'Get it out of here' and made them leave. I seriuosly disliked her for so many reasons previuos to that so at that point I could care less.

I’m sorry that this upset you so much and that you and your mom felt compelled to back down. just remember, you’re the better person! I only hope that this incident doesn’t set the tone for the future and I also hope that she doesn’t pull any more of these stunts!

Re: Well it happened to me too- invite related-UPDATED

UPDATE:

LAst night I talk to Fh and he tells me his mom is calling my mom to apologize because she realizes what she did was wrong- We were correct, once she told this lady her kid could come others began calling her and she realized she opened a can of worms(HMMM hate to say I told you so, but I told you so!)

So she told everyone NO, it is JUST family - no kids outside of the family and her 'good friend' told her she was no longer coming to the wedding.

I do feel bad that Fh does not have a lot of family here in the US and they cant come for the wedding- and FMIL has a lot of friends here... the wedding is in NY and they are from CT ...so many are not coming -even they rented a bus or what not to transport people and stay with them the whole day- which was nice of FILs, some people are saying they are not coming, and I feel bad, BUT if they are such good friends they can make the trek- my family came to CT from LI for my shower- you do what you have to do...

OH well, so the kid is not coming , parents are not arguing and we are back to planning...
