Went shopping for my favors tonight... very annoyed

Im just not 'impressed' with anything. My fmil is footing the bill for the favors and she didnt like the oil bottle and dipping bowls I had posted last week. Everything else seemed so common or played out or tacky... I hate favors!! I give up!! I dont even want to have them anymore...
I looked at everything 100,000 times and I still dont know what to get!!

Poor thing.

I hate favors too.. which is why they got chopsticks, it followed our theme and were useful. Relatively inexpensive but still nice looking. *shrug*

Hey twin (FutureMrsZ), I was thinking for my wedding to have little boxes full of chocolate coins. On the top of the boxes I wanted to attach scratch off lottery tickets, and have a little message inside the box saying 'we feel like we have won the lottery, I hope you do to'.
I would just get candy, chocolate. Everyone likes it, you cant go wrong.

I was also thinking of doing little boxs of godiva chocolates but we are having a vienesse hour and giving out bakery box's at the end for people to take home whatever is left over. Fh's family is Italian and they make a big deal over the favors.. fmil has no problem spending $10 per favor its just I dont really like what I have been seeing... either is tacky or cheesy or not useful... I dont know what I am looking for and I doubt I will ever find it

I had went to a wedding where instead of favors they had a photographer who set up and took pictures of the guests whether individual or couple, placed in a frame and then given to them at end of nite. It was a nice idea since it is an occasion where you look nice and can get a nice portrait.

The price was good. To avoid this.....bad part was that it wasnt annouced that a photographer was there and a lot of guests didnt have a clue and missed out. So FYI:It should be annouced.

Just an idea.

Thats a really cute idea.......@ least you know that everyone would keep and get use out of that. You could make scrolls explaining that the photographer would be around & to super splurge give them the info in a 4x6 or 5x7 frame.

MY fil's were in charge of favors and picked out these little creamer/ sugar set on a porcelain tray. ( whatever make sthem happy makes us happy)

But in my neighborhood ( Astoria) there are a bunch of really cute gift& favor stores-

What ever you do don't give out chessy ceramic bells or Cinderella and her horse and carriage (yes, I have gotten both). The last two weddings I went to gave out candles and the other pieces of biscotti. What about Christmas ornaments such as icicles or something for Valentines day since its Feb.

Have you thought of doing donations. Some thing that is not quite as popular yet, but it is a wonderful idea. My girlfriend just got married and she wrote this beautiful scroll out with the explaintion of which charity and and that it was in dedication to her grandmother and MIL. It is what we have chosen to do. Its just an idea, good luck

I actually remember you posting about this and have been toying with the idea for weeks. I REALLY LOVEEEEEEEEE this favor idea I thinkk its great and original.. the only problem I saw is people who are maybe missed by the photographer dont get a favor.. plus it might be a pain in the arse to hand them out at the end of the night seeing as how each one would have to go to a specific person. Everyone thinks there would be too much work involved in doing this one

Thanks! we are actually also doing a favor... since my BIL is FDNY we are donating money to the burn unit. But again since fh's family is Italian it is basically unheard of to only give a donation

I think that if you don't see something 'standard' that catches your eye, maybe you could add to it. I think I'm going with tall engraved shooter glasses and either filling them with custom colored M&Ms or filling them with colored water with a single flower and instead of having votive candles add these around my centerpiece. Sometimes ti just takes a little extra touch to a boring gift to make it look (and taste) great

I truly believe in donations to a charity. I'm not a knick-knack person so I always appreciate when the bride and groom does a donation for the less fortunate.

Food pantries really need help these days.

A donation to a local Veterans hospital (Northport) would be wonderful. I've been in VA hospitals and you would be shocked how our disabled veterans are 'living'. It would be a wonderful gesture and much appreciated by all of the men and women involved who are touched by many charities.

ugh - i'm Itailian too and everyone is ALL about the favors.......for WHAT ?? WHAT are you people going to do w/ yet ANOTHER picture frame ? or ice cream scoop (which my cousin did and I actuaolly thought was a good idea!!) But i'm in your boat......I hate everything ! I can't find a single useful thing ! -
We're almost 100% going to small boxes of Godiva. - they're not taking up the whole table and EVERYONE likes chocolate !! They'll have my TY picture as a remembrance !!

I know this is soooo hard. I think im doing personalized wine bottles, the pic frames for the place cards (they cna use those) and maybe the car air fresheners....someone poted those on here before and i thought they were really cute....the valet would hang them in the car b4 people leave

Oh! I am so sorry she didn't like the oil bottles. They were such a big hit with our families. Everyone has them out! Sorry. I totally know what you are saying cause I feel like everything else out there is blah or overused. Maybe give out chocolates, but if she is like my mom that doesn't go over well cause they can't keep it! So annoying!! Other ones I have gotten lately are the espresso cups or picture frames. That stinks..I loved the oil dipping set. Since your MIL has veto power...what kind of things is she considering?

I saw some pretty lenox items out in Riverhead last weekend. They had small frames..3 to a box for $27 plus they were discounted 10 or 15%. They were oval, round and sextagon shaped...very pretty.

I dont know at this point I am down to only a few more ideas.. she now says she dosent really care what I order and she is leaving me a check to go just pick whatever I want and put the deposit on it. Maybe I will still get the oil bottle.

My other ideas were as follows:
Wine cooler bucket thing with a bottle of red wine in it - my fmil's responce to this was what kind of wine will it be for $10 a bottle.. nothing people will drink

Cookie jar and I would put a few homemade sugar cookies in each ( heart shaped to go w/ our theme) and attatch maybe the heart shaped cookie cutter. - problem w/ this fh isnt crazy about it and I cant find nice glass inexpensive cookie jars for my life

Cake stand w/ dome - nothing huge 11' across.


What do you girls think of these???

I know me 2!! Too bad I cant find the right jars for less then $10 each
