I am so excited, I can't stop smiling & looking at my ring! Finally after 5 years and 2 months!!!
My head is spinning, I don't know what to do first ... but EVERYONE keeps asking me when the wedding is going to be. No big surprise there I guess, they've been asking when we're getting engaged for years now!
It hasn't even been a week yet, we just got engaged on Friday of Memorial Day Weekend.
What did you girls do first?!
Any cute ideas for asking the bridal party?

Hi !! congrats...the first thing I did was look for a reception hall and a lot of the girls here gave cute cards that asked them to be a bridesmaid.

I think the biggest things you want to do first are booking the reception hall and the ceremony spot. I think I went dress shopping before anything else, though!

the first thing that we did is figure out if we wanted the wedding locally or a destination wedding and then after we decided we booked our reception site!!!! i didn't ask any of the girls until six months after we were engaged

We're so unsure about that! Destination seems to be a great way to cut some costs (at least there'd be a more limited guest list!) ... but that's the biggest reason not to do the destination thing too!!!
Are you glad you waited that long to ask the bridal party? I feel like we should be asking soon for some weird reason!

i'm asking my bridal party to be in it at our engagement party which is on fathers day. i made cute little cards with a poem on it. i just went to michaels and made it myself. definetely think about who you REALLY want and just kinda want in your party and then decide. theres nothing worse than making the wrong decision with that!
i'm not even engaged yet (i'll be engaged by the end of the week!! woohoo i leave for disney on monday and he's giving me the ring officially then) but we went and looked at halls and we're about to put a down payment on one. dont just settle with the first place you look either. we went to almost 10 different places and finally confirmed which one we really wanted.
the most important thing to do is to finalize a budget. whos contributing, how much you're gonna put away every week. cause that really makes the wedding. talk with your parents or his and see when you wanna have your engagement party and when you confirm that, go make your registries (alot of fun!!) .. yeah thats all i would do for now. you have over a year.. take time and make your decisions wisely. good luck and congrats!! xo

Please don't rush into asking your bp; you may regret it down the line. You have so many things to think about and plan. We ended up waiting for our engagement party to ask & then did so with cute 'Will you be' cards. Our eparty was 4 months after we got engaged. I just hear too many girls talking about having asked people quickly & then looking back wishing they didn't rush into asking certain people.
Your first order of business is to decide where you want to have your wedding (do you care if there is more than 1 wedding at a time, do you want to be on the water, etc.) & narrow down a time of year, then do your research & set up appts at various reception places.

Congratulations!!! The first thing I wanted to do was set a date and pick a place. You almost have to do that first to organize everything else. Even when you go dress shopping they need to know when you are getting married.

I think determining a budget is the first thing to do. That will save you a lot of time when researching vendors. Unless, you have 'carte blanche'.
The big vendor is the reception hall. If you look under 'community' you will find a 'catering hall guide'. It was useful. You will have to determine how many guests you want. That will determine your hall also. The guide does not have all the halls on LI but it's a start. You don't want to pick a hall that is requires a minimum either too high or not big enough for your wedding.

congrats....make sure you get the coordinate the reception hall and the church first.....just be open with what date you want it to be, sometimes places are booked....then you can move on to the photographer and entertainment...then dress and so on.....then it all starts to fall into place. You can ask your wedding party whenever you want to, just make sure they are the ones that you really want in it. And don't let anyone pressure you into asking someone you don't feel that should be in it. congrats again!

I would start looking at halls and reception sites first and foremost, so you can lock in 2006 prices where applicable!!!
Then start looking for dresses. The wedding party can wait a little bit until you know exactly what you want!
