We're not going on a honeymoon...

We're not going on a honeymoon...

I'm very depressed lately. We're not going on a honeymoon and I am just so upset. We just cannot afford it and I refuse to do a short, local 'honeymoon' because it just depresses me so far beyond anything. With my sister's wedding only two months before mine and NO ONE helping me out for her shower, I just don't have any money leftover Because of her wedding, I don't even have enough money for my own. It's obviously not her fault, but I'm just so upset. Then, two of my good friends are getting married in May, right before me. I just cannot afford any of this, and I cannot cut back anymore than I already have. I just want to call off this stupid wedding and get married at town hall.

Sorry to hear this . Could you perhaps just postpone the honeymoon? That is what DH and I are doing. We're not going on our honeymoon until November. What if you planned a honeymoon for your one year wedding anniversary? Then you'd have time to save up for it.

why not postpone it for a little bit - people do it all the time!

If we postpone it, it will just never happen. we don't even have a place to live right now. All of our money is going towards buying a place to live. We are just at such a sh!tty point in our lives right now, and it's not going to get better any time soon. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I just need to get over it, and I will, but right now I'm really upset.

you have every right to be upset!
and i totally understand the feelins you are having now....i was looking at our finances the other day and trying to figure out when we'll be able to get a house......and it looks hopeless .
maybe someone will surprise you with a honeymoon as a wedding gift!

Are you using all the wedding gift money to pay off wedding debt? Why not go on priceline.com and bid on something? Charge it for now and pay it off later. This is probably bad advise, but if you really want to do it - what's a little more debt?

Another idea is to register for it - Sandals and Starwood have honeymoon registries. Instead of getting china at your bridal shower, ask for $$ toward the honeymoon!

Could you try registering for a honeymoon? I've heard that a lot of people do that. Maybe not some thing really extravagent like Tahiti, but maybe a cute little place in Key West or something? I hope it works out!

Re: We're not going on a honeymoon...

Well, we do not have ANY debt because of this wedding, and we refuse to go into any debt for this wedding. It's not worth it to have to dig ourselves into a hole. We are using all of the money we get, whatever sum that may be, to go towards a down payment for a home(and I use the term 'home' loosely. We MAY get a cardboard box or something) I also would never set up a registry for a honeymoon, it's just not something I see as being appropriate. It's not anyone else's job to send me on a honeymoon. I don't mean to be negative and shoot down everyone's suggestions, but the only realistic thing is that we just don't go on a honeymoon. That's the right choice for us. I really do not want anymore money from anyone else. People have been so generous as it is. Like I said, it's just a rough time with so many people getting married all at once. I feel annoyed because here we are, we planned our wedding SO much before anyone else's and now everyone else is getting married before us and because of that we have no money. I have even had to turn down being in my friend's bridal party because I just couldn't afford it. I hate this feeling. I haven't had to feel like I have no money for a long time. It just ***** that now's the time it has to happen.

NOt having a honeymoon right away isn't really that bad. Honestly FH wants one and I don't. However, we may do something small as I don't want the big expense right after the wedding. Just don't take it too hard you have a beautiful wedding coming up and don't let this ruin that moment.

I think I am having more of a hard time with people's reactions. It's an awkward conversation to tell people you're not going on a honeymoon. The reactions are hurtful And I'm embarrassed that we're having this huge, expensive wedding, but can't afford a honeymoon. What's the point? I feel like an idiot. I think that's more of the issue. I can deal with no vacation, but I feel humiliated.

You are so sweet and bluntly honest. You shouldn't feel embaressed whatsoever. People will not judge you if you don't have a honeymoon. Trust anyone with half a brain will know that a wedding is very expensive these days and should be totally empathetic to the situation.

Well, I don't think it is anyone's business if you don't go on a honeymoon. You don't have to explain anything to anyone. Alot of people don't go to exotic places for their honeymoon. You can go on a second honeymoon for your first anniversary or any anniversary that you want to do it on.

RACHEL!!!!!! I went through the same thing, If you remember, and you were there for me. You are marrying your soul mate!!!!!!!!! I remeember when id dint' think we could go on a honeymoon, I remember when we thought we couldn't have a wedding, but we are and we made it work with the honeymoon. Call Dawn from cruise one, she can probably work something out for you. I have a friend who has a villa in St. Maarten. If you could get $700 plus airfare, i can find out if it is available.. Hang in there.. I'm here if you need anything. Considering I went through the same thing

You should definitely not feel humiliated!!! People never cease to amaze me. I just can't understand why they feel the need to make comments that make people feel badly. Your wedding day is going to be so amazing!!! And you are being very responsible by not going into debt to go on your honeymoon. I know it's easy for me to say, but do not let these people get to you! Who cares what they think?

I agree with this. People turn the honeymoon into such a big deal. People find out you're getting married and one of the first questions asked is: 'where are you going on your honeymoon?' You're getting married to the man of your dreams and that's the most important thing of all. People have no right to judge you because you're not having a honeymoon. Maybe you won't get to go on one right away, but so what? My real honeymoon right after the wedding, we spent two nights at a hotel in NJ and it didn't matter whether we were in NJ or Fiji, the only thing that mattered was we loved eachother and we were so incredibly happy to finally be married. Sorry to ramble on like this. Just don't worry so much about what everybody else thinks
