were you named after someone?

I recently found out where my mom came up with Lauren from.
A few days after I threw my old company's Christams Party, where I was walking around checking people in with a clipboard, and handing out raffle tickets- where a work friend kept calling me 'Julie from the Love Boat' (she was the cruise director).
I found out that she saw the name Lauren in the credits of the Love Boat. For the girl that played Julie!
weird.

I was named after a dude. A French designer who was popular in the 50's named Jean Louis. So my mom named me Jean Louise. She used to say 'I am pretty sure Jean Louis was gay' whenever she would tell me the story about why I was named Jean Louise. I think she was hoping I would be a lesbian. I did not turn out to be a lesbian - but I did almost become a nun.

No, or at least my dad insists that he just liked it. But he insisted on Kathleen and my dad never 'insists' on anything...he's the most laid back guy to roam the earth. My middle name, Mary, is my maternal grandmother's name.

My sister Kerry was named for my paternal grandfather's county in Ireland, and my brother Daniel was named after my maternal grandfather.

I got the shaft. My first son (god willing) will be Cavan, named after my grandmother's county in Ireland.

Re: were you named after someone?

I wasn't named after anyone but my parents named me Cindy, NOT Cynthia bc they figured everyone would just call me Cindy anyway.

Well lo and behold, you know how many people insist that my name is Cynthia!!!!!!! I even get mail addressed to Cynthia, why?? Do you know what it's like when people try to challenge you on your own name?

'Well what does it say on your birth certificate'

'It says you're a moron!!!!'

My mom named me Betty after a doll that she liked as a kid. Like you, I get the 'name on the birth certificate' question all the time. People always insist that my name is Elizabeth or Beatrice

not my first name but my middle name is...my grandma didnt want my mom naming me after my aunt ( she dies when she was 18 of cancer) . My grandma thought it would be too hard. so my mom made my middle name suzanne (my aunts name was susan) so its a different take on it but still picked because of her

I'm named after my mom's cousin who died of cancer before I was born - Valerie. I love that my mom gave me such a beautiful name after someone very special to her.

Re: were you named after someone?

Named after both of my grandmothers. But my first name is a variation of my mother's mother, who is Juanita, which translates roughly to Joanna. They dropped the o and then added on my other grandmother's name, Lee.

They actually screwed up on my birth certificate, I was supposed to be Janna Lee and no middle name, but instead they put Janna as first and Lee as my middle.

Oh yeah I get asked that damned birth certificate question all the time too. People swear my name must be short for something else. Like what??? Jannaleena?? I mean really.
