Were you surprised when FI proposed, or did you totally expect it?

I totally knew the day I was going to be proposed to.

FI told me I HAD to be home by 5:30, because we just HAD to go to Home Depot together (What A Horrible Reason....I knew something was up right then and there...I NEVER go to Home Depot)..

Then, he was over 2 hours late...(he locked his keys in his car while he was really at Home Depot...with still a stop to make at the jewelers to pick up the ring)...then he went inside, missed the locksmith guy...had to wait another hour for him to show up a second time!

Well, let's just say by the time he got home, he was so frazzled....he just said, 'COme ON, Let's walk down to the beach...' and grabbed these two wine glasses and just totally gave it away with the expression on his face.

But, It was still very special!

We had gone ring shopping in Nov. 2002 and I thought well, maybe Thanksgiving...but that didnt happen. A few weeks later he kept talking about how he needed to speak to my parents about his 'intentions' with me and the night he did speak with them, I figured, well, maybe tonight, but that didnt happen either. I thought, well, maybe Christmas eve/day. The next morning I got up to go to work and he got up too (he normally doesnt get up until 9am and I leave an hour earlier). He's acting fishy and I just knew... thats when he asked me, that morning (Dec. 13...which was FRIDAY the 13th) right before I'm leaving for work! OY.

I knew cuz I helped pick out my e-ring. We also share household expenses & when he doesn't come up with his share of the bills I wanna know why! Since we're not rich he couldn't have gotten away with it unless he hit lotto. Plus he'd already asked me a few times to marry him in the past & I'd said no. But it was still all good!

I knew because I picked out my ring also

But I didn't know exactly when! He proposed on a boat ride in Disney World last July. It was so great to be on vacation and only the 2 of us knew for a little while! Then of course we told the families and friends.

FI and I had looked for rings together, but the night he actually proposed blew me away! i figured he would have proposed on my b-day (which was 6 days prior), but apparently the ring wasn't ready on time. he got me good - i was just home, in my PJ's, PMS-ing and watching Dinotopia. he kept bugging me all night if i wanted some ice-cream, which was strange b/c i'm the junk-food junkie, not him. finally i said 'fine, get me some ice cream'. he comes back out hands me the bowl and says 'here's the cherry for on top' and hangs me the red jewerly box. i was so stunned he had to open it and propose to me.

We were together for five years when we got engaged and I was still shocked!!! I'm so glad that I was surprised...it's more fun that way IMO.

We were in Colorado skiing with friends and on the top of one of the mountains FH wanted to take some pictures for his parents to see the scenery. He also had a video camera that his friend was shooting with. I saw a bench and told FH that we should sit and take a picture over there b/c then I don't have to take my skis off. He and I got into a little tiff b/c he wanted me in one particular spot where I needed to take my skis off to get to and I didn't want to take off my skis. Finally I did and we were taking a group picture (with 8 of our friends) and after we were hamming for the video I turned around to get my skis and FH was on one knee. I was TOTALLY shocked and started screaming and cursing...great to have on video - me and my colorful language.

Considering I had been so moody the day before and got all freaked out in the car that morning when FH started talking about wedding songs I'm still shocked he actually went through with it!!

I was FLOORED!!! Had NO idea..
We were at Nick D'Angelo's on a Friday night.. I was all psyched cause I thought we were going to have a night alone to ourselves and what not...so we have dinner, drink a couple of glasses of wine and he was acting all weird with this stupid smile on his face all night..haha

he ordered his dessert and out comes his brownies and then the waiter goes, 'and this is for you' and he places this huge plate on my side of the table.. I was like I didn't order anything.. then when I looked down, and in chocolate sauce it read 'will you marry me?' with a red box on top!! I thought he had the wrong table!! I was soo embarassed! lol , I was in SHOCK, I just sat there with my mouth opened and he said, 'So Marcella, Will you marry me?' and I was like of course I will, then he goes, well, don't you want to see the ring? lol I was like oh yeah, the ring lol Istill have the plate!

everyone cheered and they lit up sparklers and brought out champagne and strawberries.. the biggest surprise was that both our families had been waiting the entire time for us in the bar area!!! it was great!

I had absolutely no idea. He proposed to me on our one year anniversary at the restaurant where we had our first date with the same waiter. He even designed the ring himself. Someone at work that day told me she thought he'd propose that night and I told her she was nuts. I burst out crying when he asked, but fortunately, there wasn't a big scene in the restaurant.

He totally gave it away by some things that he said and did - like asking me to go to a museum in D.C. and then out to dinner afterwards, on a Sunday night! We NEVER go out to dinner on a Sunday night, and if we did, we'd never go all the way into D.C.
So I figured he'd propose in the restaurant, but he proposed in the museum!!!! So even though I knew it was coming, he still managed to totally surprise me. It was awesome.

I knew he was going to do it, but not that night. We had already went ring shopping, he already asked my father for his permission...
But then the night before he asked me, he alluded to the fact that he was going to come to NY the next month for something big...completely threw me off. So when he asked, I was SHOCKED

I knew...I called one of my girlfriends sometime in May and I said - Saturday, July 20 - mark it down, I'm getting engaged that day. And I did. Its very difficult to surprise me, and when FH is excited he tends to give too many details so I figured it out. But he threw me at the end - the day before I started freaking out because I thought he changed his mind. What I didn't know what the girlfriend that I told went back to him and told him what to say so he could surprise me! I could have killed her, but it was all worth it!

Jenny5150!! I can't get to the link on Shutterfly. The site is waiting to load, but it doesn't ever load! I'll try it again later today then maybe from home if I still can't get in! Thanks for pointing me to the pics though! I'll have to find pics from when FH asked me. I know I have them, but since we moved, I can't find anything!

TOTALLY SHOCKED!!!!!!!!!

I wasn't expecting it at all, but he proposed with a letter to me written in Italian (because he is italian) on our way to dinner while we were in Florence on vacation.

I was surprised the day he proposed. Of course, we had spoken about it but he kept telling me he wanted to do it when his parents were here. (They live overseas). He had bought them tickets to come in the spring time (around my b-day), so I totally thought it was going to happen then. He ended up asking me on Christmas Eve and it was a very special and exciting night for both of us.

I knew it was coming but the actual moment left me speechless - I was totally surprised.

It was a cold, rainy day in late February...we picked up some firewood & some bites and headed home. I built a fire while he got some food together. After we munched he suggested we play our new 20th Anniversary Trivial Pursuit game - which I had been wanting to play since I gave it to him about a month before - him on the sofa, me on the floor by the fire. So it's down to me having to answer the last question in order to win the game - the question is the opponents choice. He was stalling, looking through cards, trying to find a good question - I was telling him he was cheating, trying to make it hard for me. So then he reads a card...On what day did Chris _______ ask Colleen _______ to marry him?

My jaw dropped and I didn't know what to say - I stammered a little...he dropped to his knees, pulled the ring box from behind the pillow, opened it ans asked me if I would marry him. I said yes - of course! - and we both shed some tears. It was the sweetest moment...

We opened a bottle of champagne...which we eventually shared with our landlord - who is a good friend of ours...and then we visited with some friends where we had some more champagne. It was a beautiful night.

I thought it was going to be New Years Eve, because I knew a ring was coming, he showed to much interest at the jewelery store, I got diamonds for Christmas, to hold me over, and he was looking for one of my regular rings a week before xmas. When I didn't get it on New Years Eve, I figured I would be getting it on Feb 15th, our 10 year anniversary. So i was kidding with him saying that today is a great day to give someone a ring, and he surprised me later in the morning with it.

i was beyond surprised! i thought he would have proposed July 4th weekend when we went away, but instead, he picked one of his favorite holidays, St patty's day. we have gone to the parade when we first started dating, so it wasn't unusual for us to go to the city for the parade last year. we were with friends and we all had cameras. after the parade we all went for a walk through Central Park, cause FI wanted to find a nice spot, i did not know this, but our friends knew. we were taking pictures acting like goof balls. His friend even joked (or so i thought) when he said, Brandon, let's see what it would look like if you were going to ask her to marry you. I was totally clueless. so i was joking back that he better get a picture of it since it will never happen, and guess what it did. it was great. not sure how long it took to say yes. i completely forgot where we were. it was a great day. felt like i was floating!
