Were you surprised when FI proposed, or did you totally expect it?

I totally knew the day I was going to be proposed to.

FI told me I HAD to be home by 5:30, because we just HAD to go to Home Depot together (What A Horrible Reason....I knew something was up right then and there...I NEVER go to Home Depot)..

Then, he was over 2 hours late...(he locked his keys in his car while he was really at Home Depot...with still a stop to make at the jewelers to pick up the ring)...then he went inside, missed the locksmith guy...had to wait another hour for him to show up a second time!

Well, let's just say by the time he got home, he was so frazzled....he just said, 'COme ON, Let's walk down to the beach...' and grabbed these two wine glasses and just totally gave it away with the expression on his face.

But, It was still very special!

110% SURPRISED!!!!!

All he told me was he bought a cake from his favorite bakery (which he had been talking about for a long time) and was waiting for me to come home from work so we can cut the cake and have it together, then we had to go pick up his check and afterwards meeting his cousin and aunt at the bar to celebrate because it was his aunts b-day.

I got home from work, got comfy and he asked me to cut the cake.

When I opened the cake it said 'will you marry me' with the box and the ring next to me.

We had made plans to celebrate his aunts b-day but that was an excuse for us to celebrate our engagement (good thing it really was his aunts b-day)

I was shocked and surprised. I definatly didnt expect it

Shocked, John proposed on the beach in Aruba in September, I thought it would happen for Xmas! I was so shocked I couldn't answer & I would have dropped the ring in the water if he didn't shove it on my finger!

I was shocked!
I thought maybe it would happen on Christmas , but it didn't, and I was pretty bummed! We went out for dinner on NY's Eve, and he was totally fine, not nervous at all. We ordered dessert, they put the plate in front of me, and he had written 'Will you marry me?' on it. I was so shocked! I felt dizzy and nauseous, I started to sweat and my heart was pounding!

Obviously I said yes!

I love him to pieces, and I can't wait!

I knew it was coming soon but was suprised when he did it earlier tha I expected.

I kinda knew cause I picked out the ring.. but he waited till the last moment before christmas eve..and at that point i thought he wasnt going to do it before christmas

I had no idea! I told him I would know because I could tell by how nervous he would be....boy was i surprised!! He came over that night Feb.1st and I was getting ready to go, so we went to this resturant that was an hour 1/2 wait, I was like forget it i'm not waiting! So we left, he was asking me where I wanted to go so I said since its so late lets just go to chili's--lol So he said noooo I want to take u some where nice, so he mentioned our favorite resturant Tre Bambini, so i said ok! We had a very romantic dinner, and the whole time I still had no idea!! Desert came and he ordered, I saw him taking something out of his pocket while we waited, he got off his chair and got down on one knee, and said I love you and I want u to be with me forever will you marry me! I almost died, I screamed so loud and cried,everyone clapped I was so happy! So u can say i was surprised!

I looked at the cake, looked at brian, looked at the cake, back at brian and said I think they gave you the wrong cake. (he was joking with me that he got Hands off brians cake written on the cake)

Yes and No.

I knew he was going to do it during our trip to Martha's Vineyard with our friends and their baby. I figured I would have a heads up because he would find an excuse to get me all dolled up (dinner or what have you). Well, he got me good. I think he got more enjoyment out of surprising me than from the actual proposal. (He calls me 'detective' b/c I figure everything out...surprises in particular.)

Kevin and our friend Steve mentioned that they wanted to check out the beach after dinner. Believable since we had just arrived and I was just as eager to check out the water. We were walking along and Steve started snapping pics. Again, believable...we're on vacation. Next thing I know, Kevin says 'Hey (insert last name here), can I ask you something?' I turn to find him on his knee. I didn't believe him at first until I saw the ring blinding me.

The best is that our friend Steve took before and after photos. I look at them and think 'Wow, in that photo I had no clue!' and then in the next one he's on his knee.

I was completely shocked! I had picked out my setting months earlier because it needed to match my mom's wedding band but I didn't think I was getting it when I got it. I was so happy that he surprised me. That is a hard thing to do.

I knew it was coming bc I knew he ordered the ring, and I knew it came (his mom can't keep a secret for ANYTHING - she has ruined all my surprises so far). But I didn't know how or when, and he really got me on that one.

We are both runners, and on our long Sunday run last Memorial Day weekend, I was just finishing up with about a quarter of a mile to go. He is always ahead of me, he's very fast. As I rounded a turn in the trail, I saw the words 'WILL YOU MARRY ME' along the trail. He bought all these wooden letters, maby 4 inches tall, and glued them to popsicle sticks, and stuck them in the trail.

At the end was a picture he took when we were in Hawaii for the Honolulu Marathon in 2000, and he wrote a bit about how much our relationship means on the bottom of the photo. On the grass were tiny little yellow buttercups. They were encircling the ring, which I didn't see because I was so shocked. He jumped out of the bushes and ran up to me, gave me a big hug, and then I finally said 'YES!'

He said, let me see the ring, and I just looked at him like he had three heads, bc I had no idea where the ring was!!!!!

Jenny5150, can we see some pics, or do you want to keep them to yourself? I'm sure they are personal pics and maybe you don't want to share them with the whole internet... That's okay too. I would love to see them though!

FI videotaped me opening the box and my reaction. I am so glad he did because it was all a blurr to me. That is something I can treasure for a long time. We are thinking of having our videographer add it to our wedding video
