Weve all heard this saying but what does it mean?

I love you but Im not in love with you.

Is it just me or does anybody not understand what this means?

I always took it to mean love without passion.

Im asking because a girl I work with just broke up with her bf, when asked why she said 'I love him, but Im not in love with him'

I have felt this way ALOT with past boyfriends. It truly means that you love the person BUT you would not marry the person, die for the person, you can live without the person and you can see your dreams coming true without that person by your side. For my FH all of these things MUST include him. I would jump in front of a bullet for him b/c I would be empty without him and he is my dream come true.

Ok I think I will stop before I get too mushy... oops too late.

it's a nice way to say.. 'it's over.. i can get no more emotional upliftance from being with you.. if there was passion at some time, it's now gone.. you're still a good person.. but just not for me.'

It reminds me of the statement --
'It's not you.. it's me.'

i think its like i love him, hes a great guy and all, but im not in love with him, my stomach doesnt have butterflies for him, im not jealous if another girl flirts with him....
