What about 'Why are you waiting so long to get married?'

Hi Girls,
The other post gave me an idea.

Who has heard: Why are you waiting so long to get married?

My fiance and I got engaged during the summer of 2007 and everyone tried to convince us to get married in a year -2008. We have been together so long...why rush things now was my answer.

I haven't been asked that too much, I just tell them we both needed to finish college.

ugh...I hated this one...but it was easy for me to respond....we are waiting for FH to finish his masters...but other reponses have been why not...we want to enjoy being engaged!!

i get that a lot from older people (my mom's generation and up), and talking to them, i think getting married was a lot simpler then. my parents did have one of these gala events and neither did FH's. i think they just don't get the money end of things sometimes, so the attribute the lengthy engagement to other things.

it's still annoying.

I ONLY get this from my school kids and I tell them what does it matter to you, you're not invited anyway.

I work part-time at a hospital and all of the doctors ask me that for some reason. I basically tell them that my FH and I are not made of money like them and need time to save money!

we got engaged July 3 2007 and are getting married December 5 2008 - so a 17 month engagement - a little less than a year and a half and we got the same thing

hahahahaha I get this a little too....they all tell me 'but I'll be 9 by then' and I'm thinking 'AND?'

lol..i tell the people the truth...i dont have the $$ to get married in 08 , so im doing it in 09

FH and I will be together 9 years on our wedding day...we got engaged April 06 so we have heard that question over and over again....we love being engaged so it doesn't really bother me that much.

I'm in the same boat as you!

But when people ask me why I'm waiting till 9/09 they shut up once I tell them that I won't be through my cancer treatment till at least April and I want time to get back into shape. I refuse to wear a wig for my wedding!

Us too, we wanted time to plan the wedding and time to save for a house, we didnt want to rush into all these expenses

i love this post...ive been engaged for 3 yrs and was with my FH for 3 years before then...money and law school is my reason but still kinda annoys me that people feel the need to ask..lol

Not to mention there usually is not a positive answer to that question...yeah im broke, we are not ready emotionally, etc....lol
