What about 'Why are you waiting so long to get married?'

Original post by Ednkim4eva

Hi Girls,
The other post gave me an idea.

Who has heard: Why are you waiting so long to get married?

My fiance and I got engaged during the summer of 2007 and everyone tried to convince us to get married in a year -2008. We have been together so long...why rush things now was my answer.

We only heard it a couple of times in which we respond, 'We wanted to get married in May, so our only options were May 08 or May 09 and I didn't want to plan an entire wedding in like 7 months, plus we wanted to save up money.'

Yes, I have heard this just about everytime someone asks when the wedding and I say May 2009. Their look always gives it away, they don't even have to say anything. At first I used to explain myself, now I just ignore it. It is what it is.
Here is my explanation before:
I am in 3 weddings in 2008, including my brothers
we got engaged in july and I wanted a spring wedding and didn't want to rush the planning
simple, we need to save money because unlike most of my friends our parents are not paying for it.

I tell people I am a planaholic and I don't want one detail to be overlooked - I couldn't do that under a year so I decided to get married in 09. Plus, most people know I wanted a spring wedding

Our real reason for waiting so long is because my brother passed away this summer and my parents were not ready to have the wedding this year. However, all of my friends who are already married tell me all the time how much they miss being engaged and planning their wedding so I am happy I can do this for 2 years

i actually havent been asked this. everyone knows we want to be finished with school, and be able to save money so we dont start marriage in debt. they all think we're really smart for giving ourselves so much time.

I get this all the time and my answer is simply
'are you going to give me the money to pay for it if I have it sooner?'

They usually leave me alone after.

I got that from my mother......I told her we wanted to save some of our money. And I wanted to enjoy being engaged for a while.......Besides it goes by so quickly anyway, it will be here before you know it!!!!!!
