I just read the post about the wedding 'trends' that are being overdone. So, now lets all post things that we are doing to make our wedding different than everyone else's wedding.
I'll start...To honor my mom, instead of tossing the bouquet, I am going to give my mom the bouquet... and if I don't break down crying, I will make a short speech about how she showed me how to love and be loved.
that is sweet...I am giving mine to my grandmother. her and grandpa will be celebrating 60 yrs together the month b4 our wedding! also..we are getting married on 2.20.09...we picked that date in honor ouf my great grandparents whom were married on 2.20.27

I think the three most unique things about my wedding were - chocolate menus - square tables - father/daughter dance accompanied by all fathers and daughters in attendance (same thing with mother/son). That was the DJ's idea. Instead of everyone staring at me and my dad, and then DH and his mom on the dance floor, after about 15-20 seconds of alone dancing the DJ invited all fathers and daughters to join us. And then did the same with the mother/son song. It was more interactive.

what an interesting idea with the dances...did you have a lot of people that were able to participate?

Chocolate menus?! Amazing! I love the dances idea! I think I may be too selfish for it. I never did dance with my dad at my sweet 16...

Chocolate menus?! Amazing! I love the dances idea! I think I may be too selfish for it. I never did dance with my dad at my sweet 16...
I saw only ONCE chocolate menus on tv and thought it was so cool. So that is really unique.

hmm prob a few things but i wish i could say but its a surprise..but i can say fh wants to walk out to hulk hogans theme music but im not ready to say yes to that yet

The menus are made of chocolate. It is truly unique, but probably cost a fortune! I don't think it would be a good idea for me since my wedding is in August...don't want melting menus, lol. Love the idea, though.
We're tossing the bouquet and garter to married people instead of singles since they outnumber the singles and no one is any fun. The ones who catch the garter and bouquet do the garter thing and the dance with their spouse, not another married person though.

The 3 things our guests told us they loved (and remind us whenever we talk to them) were:
1) a photo cube that was the card holder:
2) neither of us are good dancers, so we took dance lessons and had our first song choreographed...there was a dip at the beginning of the dance, and when we did it, the entire room exploded with applause and whistles...take a look at their expressions:
3) Table numbers with a photo from our engagement shoot and a lyric from a song below it:
those are amazing! omg! i love chocolate and that would be something id so do! =P but im not gonna steal that idea, plus i am sure they cost a big fortune to do that and putting another high expense on my wedding list wouldnt be such a great idea, hehe! :)
but i am sure you paid a lot of money to do that.. they look absolutely GORGEOUS! :)

hmm lets see what im doing thats a little different.. i am not doing the regular bok toss, i am either doing that 'whos been married the longest' dance and the last couple on the dance floor gets the bok.. or giving it to my mother to honor her for being the greatest person in the world! :) not sure exactly yet but definately one of those!
also another different thing i am doing that i havent really heard many girls on here have.. i am having a LITTLE BRIDE! in portugal (europe) this is a big tradition, where shes suppose to mimic me and walk down the aisle right before me! :)
thats all i can remember right now.. of the things that could be different from others! :)

I love all these special touches! We are doing a few things. FH's father sings in an A capella group (they're huge with the locals in Glen Cove lol) and they are awesome! God willing one of the four, Jonathan will have recovered from surgery to remove cancer on most of his tongue. They sang at FH's sister's wedding in September, and it was really amazing. I feel blessed that they even WANT to sing at our wedding. If they do perform, they will sing our first dance song, which is a du-wop song called 'I only have eyes for you', then a song for me and my dad (LOVE the idea for all the fathers/daughters, mothers/sons to join in), then a song for FH and his mom, then a few classics they love to perform. I think I'm gonna be bawling, I'm super emotional. It will kick off the night music wise though, because we're doing the music in decades. After the big opening with the 50's du-wop stuff, we go right into 60s-70s, then 80s, 90s, and then finally when all the old people are drunk enough, OUR MUSIC!! LOL Bring on the old skool hip hop, the dre. and snoop, the Britney!! Yes, there will be Britney at my wedding, and I am proud of it.
Hmm what else though? FH and I are entering to Beastie Boys Sabotage in aviator sunglasses and fake moustaches!! Also we're having a sick Rock Band (the video game) after party at the RH. We're setting up our RB setup with FH's dad's speakers and a huge plasma screen in the CH room. We're opening the after party with a band performance (Me-drums, FH-Bass, Best Man-Guitar, my BFF myke on vocals) set which will rock the house down, and then everyone is invited to play along! If you've ever played before it's kind of like karaoke or Guitar Hero, and it's so fun!
I can't think of anything else so I guess our wedding is lame. jk lol.

I do love the idea abt the mother daughter / mother son dances.
Hopefully, my wedding cake will be unique. That is, If I can find a baker willing to do it (I've asked a few with no luck so far) I want a tri-color cookie (rainbow cookie) wedding cake. I have it drawn out, and I can personally make it, but no baker has gotten back to me on them wanting to do it! (Yes it's far in advance for my wedding but if no one can/will do it, I want to come up with another unique cake idea until I find one people will do)
Also, This isn't my idea, I saw it in the forums, but it is unique. I am thinking of throwing the BOK, that will look like a BOK but instead be a dozed separated flowers so multiple people can catch.
