what are alternatives to sign in book?

what are alternatives to sign in book?

my sister is dead set on buying me a sign in book. however i think it will just collect dust and be something i will never look at.

i know some people have a framed photo with a border that people can sign or write messages.

another similar alternative is the wish tree.

are there any other options? I know i dont NEED to do anything, but my sister is very excited about helping me out and buying some wedding stuff, like the sign in book. and if like to have something, but the traditional guest book is not my style and i wont appreciate it as much.

I was going to suggest the tree. I've seen a bowl done too. But that always reminds me of those business card competitions.

I'd love to hear about some alternatives as well since I share the same sentiment about guest books.

I've heard of people signing acermaic platter - I'm sure you could use it again.

Here's another idea I saw on about.com:

'Add some interaction I love the idea of Adesso albums and a Polaroid camera as a wedding guest book. These simple but extremely well made books have a slot especially sized for a Polaroid, allowing your friends and family to take a photo of the fun they're having. Then they easily slip the photo into the slot, and there's plenty of room to add an extended note. These are better for smaller weddings, as each book has 30 pages, and, with each guest taking a picture and writing a long personal note, the line to sign could get long. For a larger wedding, consider renting a photobooth, or asking your photographer to have an assistant take the pics, which can be added to a guestbook later.'

Here is a link to another blog post i read about someones alternative idea

you can also do a wishing bowl have blank cards the size of a business card and the guest write something nice and drop it in the bowl

great suggestions. keep them coming....

also, do guests normally sign the guest book at the reception hall or the church?

these alternatives seem more appropriate for the reception hall.

just curious :)

For my sisters wedding she had a platter signed and then had it glazed and she has it hanging on the wall. It is really awesome!!!!!

If you do the glass bowl thing, where do you put these notes after the fact?

I am doing time capsules. I have 4 containers that I bought and I am going to decorate. Each one will be labeled with a different wedding anniversary: 1 yr., 5 yrs, 10 yrs, and 20 yrs. I am going to have paper that coordinates to the color of the year on the capsule. Guest will chose if they want to fill out one card or more than one. I liked this idea because it give FH and I a nice anniversary gift on those years from our wedding!

i bought a blank journal and asked people to sign it yearbook style so each guest used about one page in the book and wrote a special note to us. i have some pages left blank and i was thinking of using them to write a 'journal entry' about how everything went on my wedding day, but i got lazy. haha.

Since we live by the water, I am having 2 white adirondack chairs set up at cocktail hour that guests can sign. We will use these every day.

Re: what are alternatives to sign in book?

i read an article in one of the thousands of bride mags i have about this.

some of the suggestions i can remember were to sign the mat of a frame, a scrapbook, A wine bottle (or 2) Paddles (like to a boat) or some other object that can be displayed in your home after sorry thats all i got

ETA: you can make a 'yearbook' type thing with pictures of you and Fh growing up poeple will have fun writting on the pictures

or. You can use a book that might mean something to the 2 of you and people can sign the inside covers

ok now thats really all i got for now

A wish bowl, a used a oversized champagne glass that the guests put there thought and advise in. You can dress it up with a wish bowl poem framed. I saved all my advise and put in album
