What are the best kind of pots?

Original post by jteach711

I am registering on Sunday but have been looking online so I have an idea what I want and the pots are confusing me. What does All Clad mean? Should we be getting stainless steel or something else?
TIA

I love nonstick...I just cook better with it...

I registered for Rachel Ray's set despite hating her....

I want to beat her over the head w/one of her frying pans and then cover her with EVOO.

Me too....

but orange pots make me want to cream myself....

I had to do it....

I'm very uncomfortable with your hipocrasy, even though I know you're going to fry some porpoise in your new pots.

I would love to roast a porpoise....care to join me ?

you KNOW I prefer a blowfish...

if you can afford calphalon it's the way to go. they are heavy but cook really great. I have a few from back in the day when i worked at linens n things and i looove them. ESPECIALLY the omelet pan. register for that if nothing else.

I got a 10 piece calphalon set and LOVE it. I cook and bake all the time and I have no complaints.

Which set? I orig registered for Every day hard andonized, but I'm not sure now. What do you recommend?

I can't get on the website here but we got it at kohl's and it's on their website. It's the only 10 piece baking set by calphalon from kohl's. I have a picture but I forgot the exact name of the set

I got the 14 piece all clad set. You need to get some non-stick pans though for frying or anything else that will stick if you get that.

i could be wrong but i think all-clad means that they can't go in the dishwasher

i have the stainless steel set by emeril and i love them, except my next set i will make sure the handles have rubber grips on them, b/c they get very hot otherwise

Not true, we just bought our all clad set, its stainless and can go in the dishwasher

ok i got confused it's analon or hard-anondized those can't go in the dishwasher i think ?????

All Clad is one of the top brands stainless steel is the best to use for everyday cooking if you like to cook otherwise go for nonstick. If your a pro cooking type person that is when you go for a better series of allclad.

All-Clad is the brand name.

I recommend stainless pots and pans, and then recommend one or two nonstick fry pans (but replace after first sign of wear.)

We have KitchenAid stainless with copper core and they are awesome!

Re: What are the best kind of pots?

I registered for All Clad- I've cooked on the before and they're definately worth it, but if you want non-stick go for Analon.

FYI- Emeril pots and pans are made by All-Clad but in Mexico, the real ones are made in the US.

Also, you can dishwash Allclad stanless pots, but NOT the BRUSHED stainless pots. Copper core pots are dope though too. they distrubute the heat very evenly. If your a real cooker go for quality, if your not then don't bother....

ALSO- Les Creuset makes EXCELLENT cast iron pots and pans in pretty colors

I actually didn't get to register for those--I went to my FH's house one day (way before we were engaged) and my FMIL ordered us Wolfgang Puck pots--they look really nice
But I think I would go with Emeril or anything stainless steel

Epinions

I used Epinions to help me in my decision...

I had the same dilemma. I ended up registering for Calphalon Stainless Steel 13 pc set and got a non-stick omelette pan, and a non-stick griddle pan...

You definitely want to get pots that have metal handles, not the plastic ones because you can't put them in the oven. I'm registering for the Emeril pots.

Jessica, since Fred is very into healthy living, he does not want to cook on anything with non-stick, so they will be using stainless steel. Personally, I haven't come that far in thinking I can't use non-stick; I can't stand stuff sticking to stainless steel.
The only time I get concerned is when the non-stick is coming off. Then I think, ' Where's that stuff going, into me??' Debi had some non-stick items on their registry, and when I told them ,they changed the registry; Even the wok Fred wanted initially had non-stick. Mary MOB

ive heard the non stick are a pain in the butt...they are the ones with the little circles in it and even though the food doesnt stick in there, they dont always clean as well...my parents got the calphalon set for us and ive heard that its great...havnt used it yet though

LADIES WITH PET BIRDS!!!
be careful with nonstick coated cookware.
the fumes from the chemicals the cookware is treated with can kill birds.
most of the pot sets even have a warning in their paperwork.

just something to think about.

I actually bought non-stick in an attempt to kill all of the birds, esp the Canadian Geese. They're mean f*ckers.
