What are veils made out of?

I've always thought it was tulle, but when I went to check out bolts of tulle at the fabric store, it felt so stiff and scratchy. The veils i tried on at the bridal store were so soft and flowy.....

mine is silk. The tulle felt so gross against my skin (I am super sensitive though)

It's called bridal illusion - it's a nicer form of tulle. The silk ones are $$$$ and they don't recommend adding embellishments to silk veils.

You could always go to tri-county flea market to get a veil cheaper too. Mine was $35.

there are different types of tulle. Or should I say, tulle blends. If you go down to Manhattan's Garment district, you will see the difference in the fabric. The basic tulle is toasty, it's hard. That is mostly used for our slips. The veil tulles are sometimes organza blends, chiffon blends, silk blends, lace blends....etc....A fabric store will have all the types you're looking for.

there are different types of tulle - rayon, polyester, silk, nylon... The rough ones at the store are probably polyester.
