My FH and I were talking about that the other day...it would be strange to call my inlaws Mom and Dad. Is that bad??

I've called mine Mom and Dad for about 8 years now. Lol. But they are just the Mom and Dad type to everyone. I know quite a few people who just call their inlaws by their first names and don't find anything wrong with it.

My FI doesn't call my parents anything (and they think it's funny but also inappropriate). My parents want him to call them by their first names (they think it's disrespectfull to the real parents to just start calling someone else mom or dad).
My future in laws want to be called mom/dad, but I'm pretty sure it would make my parents feel bad if I they heard me call someone else mom or dad. At the same time, I don't think his parents feel comfortable being called by their first names!!!! (I tried once and got a weird look!)
Has anyone considered just having a conversation with the inlaws, and asking them what they'd prefer to be called? (I'd like to call you Mom/Dad, or I don't think my own parents would feel good about me calling someone else Mom/Dad)?
Is that mature or is that too childish??

I actually call them mom and dad already and I've called them that for a while. That's what they told me to call them, so I feel comfortable.

I NEVER called Kevins mom ANYTHING!!!! lol i get away with it somehow..... but the other day i left a message saying 'hi CAROLE'. I know her other SIL has known her for YEARS and also has never called her anything..... she writes me things that say 'Mom D' i dont know if i can call her mom.... i dont know if she expects it......?

I don't know - they want me to call them Mom/Dad, but I just can't bring myself to do it. I try to get away with calling them nothing at all :P

I call FMIL by her first name, and his father 'The Cheif' - it's a fmail nickname for him. That won't change when we are married.
I think that when we have kids though I might be inclined to call them Gramma and Grandpa.
