Over the weekend my Fiance, his mother, my mother and I got together and started up our guest list.
Well after it was all put out on paper we are up to 228 people and thats not including people from our jobs or our friends.
A lot has to do with the '& guest' since most of our cousins are our ages and we figure to invite with guest but most of them arent even in relationships.
My question is, since FH & I are paying for this wedding ourselves, do we really have to invite '& guest' with everyone or can we just invite people alone, espeically our cousins?
Thanks in advance for you help!

Re: What are you ladies doing about '&guest'?
Thanks so much ladies,, I'm going to have to talk this over with my fiance and decide what we are going to do because to add over 50 '&guests' sounds a little rediculous to me.

We cut all of the'& guests' for anyone who was not engaged or in a serious relationship. We had no choice and not one person complained about not being able to bring a guest.

I think the most important thing is to be consistent. Whatever method you decide to use, as long as you're consistent with everyone I'd like to think no one will get upset.
My fiance and I decided that someone only gets invited with a guest if they are married (obviously), engaged, or living together. We don't have any guests in long term relationships who do not fit into one of those categories. The only exception I would make is if you are inviting a friend who doesn't know anyone else that is going to be at the wedding.
But it's YOUR wedding and YOUR money and 50 extra people adds a significant amount of expense! Good luck!

Re: What are you ladies doing about '&guest'?
We decided to include everyone with a guest. I know most of my friends won't bother to bring one but I did want to give the option. I completely agree that adding extra guests adds to the dollar amount but I have been invited to soooo many weddings without an option of a guest and felt a little 'annoyed' that they made the decision to decide whether or not someone was important to me. I also like to think that whoever brings a guest will cover that person's plate. Regardless, you should just do what makes you happy though ! good luck !

we decided to do and guest for everyone but i think it's totally fine if you don't. i know alot of people who only do it for people who are in serious relationships.

we did and guest for everyone, and surprisingly, only 2 people brought a guest. the majority of the people were invited with a +1 were family members and they came alone because they knew everyone else.

we are inviting everyone with a guest and we're paying for this wedding. we both know how awful it is to have to go to a wedding and not have anyone you know there and didn't want anyone feeling uncomfortable.
with that said however, if you need to cut down, then not everyone needs to invited with a guest.

We decided if you are not in a committed relationship then sorry no guest. Unless they are a friend and wont know anyone else there then they were invited with a guests.
I am not paying all this money for someone to eat to meet them for the 1st time that night...no way

This was our delemma to but we decided that if they were not in a serious relationship than they did not get the & guest invite. Think about it this way do you really wanna have a bunch of people you don't know at your wedding?
thats what we are doing. im sorry but we are not made of money and i really wouldnt want people there that i didnt know.

My FH and I both have big Irish familes. We are not inviting many of them with guests unless they have an 'established' boy/girl friend. I read that this is okay somewhere. I figure, they know a lot of people there so it's not an issue. If it is a friend who won't know a lot of other singles there, the and guest is a must.

Re: What are you ladies doing about '&guest'?
i mean I think its okay if when u send the invites out they are not dating anyone, you are aware of this and dont invite them with guest, idk when your wedding is, but if you are looking at this a year or 6 months in advance, just because they're not dating someone now, dosent mean they wont be. If they are distant cousins u never speak to its polite to invite with guests, but if they are close family I think its okay to be like...well I know your relationship status and I'm not inviting with a guest because I wouldn't want close family and friends of mine bringing strangers that are expensive just because they're invited with guest.... on the other hand, you'd think people would know better, and you think they would be respectful and not invite a random person, then invite them to be polite. Personally I think I will end up inviting people with guest, but I think most of my close friends and family will know that it would not be right to bring someone they're not in a relationship with.

I would only add & guest for people who were in relationships or people who didn't know anyone else at the wedding

i was having the same prob bc my list went to almost 300 and that wasn't even including with a guest....so i decided that as of right now now everyone will be invited with a guest...some of my friends from college are not in relationships and have each other n i know wont be offended...if you have someone who doesnt know anyone then id def invite them with a guest..because that can be uncomfortable then

Fh and I only invites those ones in a serious relationship. It started getting too expensive to keep adding on guest. We felt bad but we are paying for this. JMO!

Re: What are you ladies doing about '&guest'?
At first I was invited everyone with a guest, but my list shot up to over 250 ppl. FH thought I was crazy. Only guests who don't know anyone or you have been in a serious relationship can bring a guest. I also am giving a guest to a few of my aunts who are gong to want to bring a dance partner.

Re: What are you ladies doing about '&guest'?
i think that's kind of a bitchy thing to do to not invite your cousins with a +1 because you dont know them. and its kind of tacky to invite just some of your cousins or friends with a +1 and not others word will get out and everyone will hate you.

Re: What are you ladies doing about '&guest'?
It's bad etiquette not to invite with a guest. People get offended and it makes you look cheap. Your wedding is so far away, you dont know who will be in a relationship by then. How would you feel if your FH was invited to a co workers wedding and they didnt invite you because they never met you. You are spending a lot on money dont cheapen it.

Re: What are you ladies doing about '&guest'?
I invited only people that I knew was in serious relationships ((more than one year) with guest. However, I'm still getting responses so I hope i have no major issues.
