I am really sensitive about my looks and my writing.
Because of my body image issues, how I feel about myself on any given day is directly a result of what I think I look like. Who I see in the mirror is far from what I think I look like. Sometimes I'm surprised that a normal person is looking back at me.
And the writing - I feel like if you think that my writing suckks, then you think I suck.

I also get sensitive about whether or not I am intelligent enough or witty enough for other people. Sometimes I feel like cryptic remarks are secretly aimed at me. Even on here I get weird - I love the banter and the wit - but I will often refrain from participating in certain conversations because they are clearly meant for those folks who are ‘in the know’. Normally it doesn’t bother me because I know the girls on here all know and love each other on and off the web and that I am just not a part of that community – but I admit that sometimes I get sad when I see comments about ‘invasions’ from outsiders .. I wonder if those comments are aimed at me so I kind of slink away…
I completely agree and to be honest (NOT to be mean) I think there is reason to feel that way sometimes.
ETA: I understand that I'm relatively new to this board so yes, there are 'inside jokes' that I won't know anything about but nonetheless, it's difficult not to feel like an outsider.

I’m very defensive about my decision not to have kids. NO, I’m not going to change my mind. I’m very happy that you love your kids and you find it so rewarding and your life would be empty without them and it give your life purpose, but it really IS possible to have a rewarding, fulfilled, purposeful, unselfish life without kids…
PLEASE NOTE: I am NOT anti-children and anti-mother – it’s just not for me. It’s like for those of you who HAVE kids if people constantly told you you’d regret it, and you’ll change your mind and WHY did you have kids… etc… it would get annoying. SEE - even here I'm getting defensive and feel I have to DEFEND saying I don’t want kids because people will think ill of me!

I am just so astounded and angry that people even have the nerve to ASK you about this! It is so personal!
My aunt - who was also my godmother - chose to not have children. It was a very personal decision and it was NEVER about the fact that she didn't love children, it was simply that she did not feel the need or the desire to have children of her own.
I remember when I was a teenager someone commented on how great she was with me and asked flat out why she didn't have any children of her own. So Aunt Julie suddenly burst into tears and went into this long story about how she desperately wanted children, but a traumatic accident had left her barren. The other lady was horrified. Suddenly Aunt Julie goes something like 'Yeah - that's really ********. I honestly never wanted kids. I have my animals and my nieces and my nephews and my husband is like a child so I am good. But that COULD have been the answer so maybe you should be mindful before you ask such personal questions!'
Aunt Julie was the COOLEST LADY EVER. Seriously.

my freckles/skin
and to top it off the first thing my BIL says to me last weekend is 'did you get more freckles since the last time I saw you?'

My weight. Having been 260 pounds and a size 24 I still feel the pain of being taunted throughout childhood and even into my adulthood. It never goes away even though I am of normal weight for my height and no longer a plus size. It left me with permanent feelings of inadequacy.

Re: What are you most defensive/sensitive about?
oh geez....I could write forever on this post. At this very moment, I'm most sensitive about other people, what they have in comparison to me, and what other people think....even my own family. I often feel like I have to 'keep up ' with what everyone else has....particularly inthe way of marraige, kids, homes, etc. And I always feel that I am totally behind. I worry about my fertility, and will I ever have kids? this is so hard. I can't even type anymore b/c I get so anxious sometimes. We are seein a bunch of friends tomorrrow....in comparison they are so far ahead of me in all of these things I mention....DH and I already talked about it and I have convinced him to call in the am and tell them we can't go b/c I don't feel well. This is crazy!!!! I know its nuts....but I can't help it. Such a deep insecurity. Its terrible.

Re: What are you most defensive/sensitive about?
Im sensitive about my femininity.
i dont have a lot in common with many women-i dont know one handbag from another, i dont know what brand clothing to buy, i dont wear dresses, i dont like to dance, i dont like pop music, dont like to get my nails done or wear jewelry....i think nothing wrong/bad with people who do like these things but i feel embarrassed around other women becuase i have to pretend that i know what they are talking about.

That's AWESOME!!
One time a woman I barely knew asked why aren't you going to have children, I said 'I can't have children, I used to be a man.' That shut her RIGHT up.

OMG!! I cannot believe anyone would have the nerve to say that to ANYONE, no less someone they hardly know.
Both are fantastic answers and those people should be ashamed of themselves for even asking what they did.
I happen to applaud couples who decide not to have children. Thank you for not falling prey to the pressures people put on us to have children when you don't want to have them. I do not think you are bad people, anti-children or whatever else these ignorant people can come up with.
My mom works in a hospital for children who were abused/neglected. These children are there b/c the courts ordered it. They are severely disturbed and most of them have either tried to harm themselves or someone else.
Sadly, most of these kids come from households where their parents abused or neglected them. I am shocked at some of the stories she tells us.
It's TRAGIC when people who don't want children have them. So thank you for not.

Re: What are you most defensive/sensitive about?
I am sensitive about my breast size, too large. I know people say I should be happy because some girls are paying big money for them. I am a size 2, I dont need DDs. I dont want to be flat chested, I just wished I didn't have so much.
I am also sensitive about my height (5'2') but I've learn to not let it bother me, but sometimes I just get annoyed when people use my height to talk about their kids.
