what are your opinions on the debate?

Original post by catsgirl

I personally do not care for Palin at all, I just feel she is not ready and is full of alot of half truths. and personally she did not seem to smart in her interview with katie. these are just my thoughts right now. I am still undecided.

I think they both did ok. She held her own, as did he. I get nervous with both of them as they are both prone to make slip-ups.

However, I think she plays the cute card too often and it was physically making me cringe last night. If I heard the term hockey mom or maverick one more time, my shoe was going through the tv.

I am kinda bummed that I don't think SNL will have enough material for Tina Fey tomorrow night tho!!

Did anyone continue to watch at the end how the families interacted? I always find that very interesting and even though you cant hear what they are saying, I like seeing their expressions and reactions.

EEk..I got nervous when Palin handed the baby to her seven year old who proceeded to walk down stairs holding him.

Re: what are your opinions on the debate?

I was surprised because I was really expecing Palin to flub this like she has all her other interviews. But she seemed very very well rehearsed and I almost feel like someone was sitting all week with her using flashcards lol. I think the reason I feel she didnt do so bad was because I already had low expectations of her going into this. I do find her to be very condescending and I really cant stomach when she says she is 'LIKE ME' The woman is the furthest thing from me or any other families I know. And I really wish she would stop using soccer mom, mavericks, sixpack Joe, golly gee gosh darnit. Im was very happy when Joe finally took the word Maverick and let her know how much of 'Mavericks' they are NOT. That was the best part for me. He seemed like he HAD IT with that word already. I was also glad Joe brought up what happened to his family. This whole election, I feel like McCain and Palin have used their sympathy cards and its about time someone in the Obama/Biden campaign used something to 'warm' Americans hearts.

Oh and it really pissed me off when Biden called her out on not answering anything and she said something along the lines of, 'I may not answer the questions the way you or the moderator would like' Then why was she there??

Re: what are your opinions on the debate?

I'll admit I was hoping Palin would embarrass herself last night the way she did during the KC interviews but she clearly prepared for the debates. She did a lot better than I expected, but I still don't think she did 'well.' I know candidates dance around the issues but she blatantly switched topics altogether and just talked about the things she prepped for rather than what she was asked. It's possible the 'hockey mom' and 'golly gee' talk resonates with people, but it just doesn't work for me. I think a lot of her answers were 'me' 'me' 'me' and things to make herself look better, rather than making McCain look better --- it's possible she needed to defend herself to do damage control but she said some things that contradict what her ticket is saying...

I came into the debates knowing nothing about Biden except for a few clips of him putting his foot in his mouth in the past, so I was curious to see him in action. I was very impressed. No attacks, no gaffs, for the most part he answered all of the questions he was asked, he seemed to have real experience, and he was really likable. I was very very impressed.

They both did better than I expected, but I do think Biden 'won' the debate and will be interested to see the polls. Finally, if anything does happen to either McCain or Obama, I think Biden would make a good president. I don't think Palin is ready.

i didnt know much about Biden before this debate either. I wasnt sure how I felt about him but I was very impressed after last night. He did very well and actually knew what he was talking about.

Palin is horrible. I am embarrassed as a woman by her. This is what is representing our gender? I was shocked when reporters said she did well and that she speaks to the common person. Do you want the common person running the country? no you want someone who is strong, intelligent, and well spoken...she embodies none of those qualities.

I missed this debate, DH and I weren't home. I really wanted to see it because I was curious to see how she does in a debate.

But your post makes a good point about something. At first I think we all thought how all eyes are going to be on what Palin says so she probably feels even more pressure. But like you said in the beginning of your post, I think most of us thought she was going to mess up, we were all waiting for her to say stupid things, so in the end it actually worked to her benefit. Since we expected her to do so badly, even if she did just ok and just didnt say anything stupid then that would be a big improvement. The bar was set so low for her that she didnt have to do an excellent job. Everybody is so amazed she was decent that it made them say 'oh wow she did so good'. But if she hadn't said stupid things in the past and people actually expected ALOT from her at the debates, then i wonder how they would've felt about how she did last night. I think it would've been more like 'eh she was ok but just didnt do great'. I hope i made sense and got my point across of what im trying to say.

I didnt see the debates so not sure if i would've said OH WOW she was GREAT!!!!. But i think just bc i was waiting for her to mess up, all she had to do was a so-so job and she would be applauded for that. I think from others we would've expected more. Its like a student who always gets F's, if they get a C they will be applauded that they did better. But if it was an A student who got a C then you would look at it very differently.

my sentiments exactly - stop acting cute, you are running as VP!! Fox ran a post debate council style meeting with a few undecided voters from Ohio and a lady says, she was adorable up there.. blah blah.. umm puppies are adorable, kittens are adorable.. heck babies are adorable.. I don't want the next person running this country to be adorable..

Re: what are your opinions on the debate?

watched the entire debate and my thoughts are:

Palin: everyone was watching it like a nascar race, waiting for her to hit a wall so the bar was set VERY LOW for her. She pulled herself together enough to realize not to comment on things she has no clue about so to switch the focus on what she does know. Smart move but the vocabulary she used sickened me. BBC commentators that are international focused on how she used words not in the english vocabulary and it was like watching a episode of heehaw - lame on her part. I think she did well but certianly didn't win the debate.

Biden: bar was set very high since he is a seasoned politician and debator. I felt he did a great job but not amazing. He didn't come off as a complete know it all and answered 90% of the topics presented to him. He threw out hard stats and yes a few were not 100% correct BUT he did state 'i think' or 'from what we know' instead of he knew for 100% that the statement was true. He did skip over the fact he did side with certain bills that McCain did vote for and that he did make statements about Obama that were negative in the past. But I have to say he won this debate overall.

Overall comments: Palin only has two agenda's one to make Alaska rich in money by using the natural resources that it has to 'stop relying on foreign energy' by raping its forests and their protected lands. She wants to do off shore, on shore drilling, build more natural gas pipes through protected lands, roll back on protected endagered species in order to benefit for internal means of getting money to her home state. She even stated she feels that temps rising and the greenhouse effect is a natural cycle and most likely isn't effected by man - WRONG!

Her other agenda is to give more tax breaks to companies (mostly high earning - big business not the small business she keeps claiming McCain and herself are for) and no tax breaks to the middle class. I am sorry I am against this ideology. It will not bring more jobs to this country and their foreign policy of troop serges is off by far of actually woring in Iraq.

I feel Obama/Biden have at least clear solid plans, timelines and effective solutions for middle class america, health care (even though Biden was completely off in his argument on health care reform to Palin) and foreign policy (Dafur/afganistan/iraq). They have stated over and over again that only people making 250K and large corps will be paying high taxes not middle class people and yet McCain/Palin haven't stated their plan on who is going to pay for the deficite (spelling). The only thing I am unsure of Obama/Biden's plan is on energy. They haven't given a defined action in this territory.

I can go on but i think i wrote way too much as is.
