He did have knowledge of this prior to it happening to what extent he didn't know no one knew, but to place blame or to criticize what Bush did to right this wrong is just ridiculous just as ridiculous as the red flags that Clinton Chose to ignore.

OK- here's the reason why (or part of the reason) why jobs are going overseas:

the main job of a CEO of a public company is to keep their stock prices high. They do this by being 'successful'- selling a lot of products and bring in more $ than they put out. Of course, sometimes you NEED to put out more $ than you bring in (for example, at the beginning of the life cycle of a product- when you are doing a lot of research and development- trying to create a NEW product, how to manufacture it, etc)... Because CEOs and other Executives in corporation receive the majority of payment in stock options, and because stock options are not viewed as an accouting expense (as in-kind payment, etc) their main goal it to keep share price up (so their bank statements look nice and fat). In doing so they really aren't doing any of the technological innovation they should be doing. They mainly want to buy low, and sell high. Why can they buy products for a cheap price? China. Where can they do cheaper research & development? China...

PLUS- Bush's plan DOES give tax breaks to companies Like WalMart that pretty much do exactly what I've stated above.

Bush is all about Crony Capitalism- taking care of your friends in the CEO positions- not the worker.. he can give a RATS REAR

The point is that Bush is playing a game- making all you people think that a vote against him is Anti-America.. this love it or leave it crap he's been spewing (practically)- THAT is anti-American.. he is an INSULT to this country and to the founding fathers.

so what do we do.

Re: What are your thoughts on

The first thing we have to do is push our elective officials to demand that companies REPORT all stocks as expense- that will make all the companies financial pictures a LOT different.

Don't you think Kerry will do the same thing? Isn't he married to the heiress of the Heinz fortune?

Yes, Kerry is married to the Heinz heiress, but I am not sure what this has to do with jobs going overseas. I am pretty sure Heinz is produced in America.

Sassy wants corporations to start accounting for stock options as expenses. All I meant was that I don't think Kerry would go for this, seeing that he is married into the family of a big corporation.

Kerry's wife was married to Sen. John Heinz. She is not an heiress, at least not by birth.

No, I do not think Kerry will do the same thing. Read below -

Restoring Jobs and Rebuilding Our Economy
George W Bush has chosen tax cuts for the wealthy and special favors for the special interests over our economic future. John Kerry’s priority will be middle class families who are working hard to cover the mortgage, pay the high cost of health care, child care and tuition, or just trying to get ahead.

The first thing John Kerry will do is fight his heart out to bring back the three million jobs that have been lost under George W. Bush. He will fight to restore the jobs lost under Bush in the first 500 days of his administration. Kerry has proposed creating jobs through a new manufacturing jobs credit, by investing in new energy industries, restoring technology, and stopping layoffs in education.

John Kerry has a plan to secure America’s economic future and ensure that workers can achieve the American dream in our changing economy. John Kerry has the courage to roll back Bush’s tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans so we can invest in education and healthcare. He isn’t afraid to crack down on corporations that are hiding their money in Bermuda to avoid paying their fair share and will end special tax giveaways to companies that ship jobs abroad. And he will defend the rights of workers, consumers and shareholders in holding corporations accountable for their actions.

This article doesn't say anything specific about what Kerry will do. And it certainly doesn't say that Kerry is for changing basic accounting principles.

My dad is an unemployed garment worker because everyone buys clothes that are MADE IN CHINA/MALDIVES/GUATEMALA/MACAU...
what about THAT?!

I agree with you. This is a HUGE problem. The problem is that so many American businesses are sending our work overseas to factories in other countries, rather than keeping those jobs and products in our country.

I believe (and I think Sassy is much more informed on this subject than I am) that part of Bush's tax reform gives breaks to companies that are sending work overseas.

On the other hand, do you check the labels of all the clothing you purchase to see if it's American made? If more Americans would only buy American goods, this wouldn't be a problem - so don't lay the blame on government and companies sending work overseas if you're going to buy the product. You do have the freedom to choose.

And if you think consumers don't count - we just got a letter from Interstate Baking (with coupons) telling us that because we, and so many other consumers complained about the New Improved Devil Dogs, they were going back to the old recipe their customers preferred.

The bottom line is that we live in a capitalistic society. The goal of corporations is to make money. If they ship jobs overseas in order to save money making the product, that savings gets passed on to the consumer. We as consumers want the lowest prices. I agree if we did buy all American, that would help the economy. Unfortunately, I don't think many people will pay more for a product just because it is made in America - at least not enough to make a difference.

So maybe we should also do away with the minimum wage and pay manufacturing workers the same rate they get in China so we can compete on cost??????

When I responded, it was before you said that you were specifically referring to the accounting aspect of the prior post. I thought you were referring to Kerry giving the same prefernential treatment to big companies as Bush has done, based on your Heinz reference.

And if you really think that article doesn't say anything specific about what Kerry will do then you simply just don't want to see anything that might conflict with your viewpoint. The article lists several specific actions that Kerry intends to take.

Re: What are your thoughts on

It saves us nothing when jobs get shipped overseas. It leaves us with more people without jobs and without health insurance, which means more people collecting state sponsored assistance.

The people who save are the American companies that leave Amercian workers unemployed so that they can pad their profits.

I stand corrected. I reread it more carefully and I do see some specific things Kerry plans to do. Not saying I agree they will work, however, it is a plan. My reading comprehension skills left me for a minute. Been a long day...
