West Neck beach (in Huntington) is about 6 minutes from me...so we go there a lot. Tiana beach...in West Hampton? Fire Island - Ocean Beach or Cherry Grove (I love that there are no families there!). On occassion, some beach club in Long Beach.

TOBAY is the best! I like Florence Avenue also for a quick trip & I LOVE jones for the boardwalk (Not on the weekend though--it's too crowded and the element gets a little weird)

Since my FH got a truck with 4 wheel drive, we go to the outer beach at mith's Point and we love it. There are 6 of us that go, we bought a mini bbq and chairs, and we have a great time, and the best is, we don't have to carry all of our stuff from the parking lot, we put our chairs right next to the trucks and relax.

Other than that, we often take the pooches up to Coindre Hall (next to Gold Star Battalion Beach) and let them swim there.

I've only gone to beaches on the north shore that are mostly rocky - I was wondering can anyone recommend a beautiful sandy beach to go to - either north or south shore?

Let's see. For a quick trip, we just hop on our bikes and go down to Sayville beach, because it's less than a mile from our house. For a nicer beach, we ride to Corey Beach in Blue Point/Patchogue. If we are feeling really 'beach', we'll take the ferry over to Sailor's Haven. Last year we had the Empire Pass and we frequented Robert Moses a number of times.
Before FH and I bought our house, I'd visit Shoreham beach, so aptly nicknamed 'rocky beach' in my family because it's on the north shore.

We go to Cedar Beach it is close to us. We even go at night to go fishing off the dock. It is a lot of fun
