What did your guests wear to your ceremony -

What did your guests where to your ceremony if it was NOT at the reception hall. I attended a BEAUTIFUL wedding on the 4th and was SHOCKED at how awful everyone came dressed. My family said they would be embarrassed and upset if our guests do that to us.

Most of the girls had their hair done up nicely - and I KNOW that they dressed up - b/c at the reception they were wearing formal wear but - they showed up in SHORTS and TANK TOPS and cut off jeans and capri pants - and basically looked as if they belonged at a bbq - but later they showed up at the reception dressed to the 9's - the church WAS air conditioned so that was NOT the issue

I went to a wedding last year and some even came with curlers still in there hair. i thought that was so rude!

It was mixed for us, some people were in jeans and t-shirts, others were dressed up. I never understood WHY people do that? Maybe its the gap in between? I dunno

I think it is SOOOO disrepectful - you might not dress as you would for the reception but hey - at least put a dress on or suit and a blazer for guys at the least - My ceremony is at 4 and the reception is at 6 so maybe people won't go home and change?

It is so funny, because DH thought that a couple of people came under-dressed to our wedding (no formal jacket) but when we went to two weddings last two days, and saw people like if they were going to a BBQ ... it was just too much! With beach sandals, shorts, tanks, and some looked like coming from a Hawaiian beach cocktail! I guess, some people just don't get it, a wedding is a always an event to look nice.

i defiantely would not like that... I ALWAYS would wear a dress to the whole day

I can't stand when people do this. If the ceremony is during the day I still wear a dress. it IS church and then later on I will change in to my evening attire. I have seen people come in like they were going to a barbecue. Don't they know people take pictures???? But I also hate when you invite them and they don't go to the church go only to the reception. That is the most important part.

Thank you Diane - I think it is rude not to go to someones ceremony when they invite you to your wedding - but I have never seen people dress that way for church before and so I was shocked to see people at the wedding this way - I was shocked when I heard people commenting on the fact WE were dressed and saying they had never been to a wedding where people DRESSED!!!!!!!! So I thought maybe I was just out of the loop.

I just hope no one shows up in Jeans to the wedding reception- or they WILL be asked to leave (apparentely that is a policy at the club - NO jeans for ANYONE)

MarciaD THere are such things as casual wedding where something like a button down shirt and nice pants and a nice sundress or nice skirt and blouse would be appropriate for something like that - or even hawaii lauii MAYBE a hawaiian theme clothing IF requested byt the bride and groom - and that is fine - but when it is a dressy wedding and people do it I think it is a shock

I was totally agreeing with you - there is a time and place and appropriateness for everything in life and makes you wonder how these people were raised - mostly I think it is plan selfishness - Something tells me the same people who do these things would be appalled if someone showed up that way to their wedding - then maybe not if they grew up in a barn

I went to a wedding last year in September & one of the guests l;ooked like she was still in her pajamas... ya know, the drawstringy ones!

I thought it not only looked tacky, but very disrespectful as well.

i have seen this alot and i must admit i do usually wear 2 different outifts to the church and recpetion if i can, but usually like a suit and then a cocktail dress or something....never anything 'un'-fancy....i have seen the curlers, shorts, tank tops, even wife beaters...some people totally miss the point that the churhc or ceremony part is what the day is all about.....come to think of it, most of the time, many people even skip the church/ceremony too....how tacky!

When Roger and I went to Jen's wedding ceremony. I was shocked to see what some guest wore, I told him I have never been to a ceremony, where people dressed so casually for something so solem, its as you say, some were dressed for a BBQ, I think if you are going to make the effort to go, might as well be presentable. I think Jeans and t-shirt and tank and capris are inappropriate IMO

oh my gosh- FI and I went to a friend's wedding in jersey on the 4th and were shocked at what people were wearing- jeans- and one woman in a WHITE sundress- I thought that was not allowed. Well, FI and I are getting married at the catering hall so hopefully we will not encounter that problem...
