I'm a little confused and upset right now. I came home to more RSVP's (literally, the moment I look forward to each day!!!). Anywho, I got ANOTHER decline from someone in FH's family. This is 6 people so far. They all live in Boston. It is a trip, yes...BUT, I don't understand why they can't make it. There are only 27 people in his family invited. I just feel like they just don't give a poop about the wedding or FH. There are some exceptions in his family. He does have older Aunts that the trip to NY would be too much. But his cousins, give me a break! My WHOLE family, including my friends went to Boston for a weekend last year for 4th of July to meet FI's family.
A part of me wants to call FI's mom or dad to find out what's going on? I feel bad for FI. We live in GA, he doesn't get to see his family often, and what a better time then his own wedding. I guess still not then, either!?! I hate this.
I spoke to my dad and asked him what I should do, and he said 'screw them'. If they don't want to be there, then it's their loss. I know he's right, but I still feel really bad for FI.
Do you think I should call his parents?

Re: What do I do?
I don't think that you have to call and specifically say 'Why is your family all RSVPing no?' But if you'd like to make it known to them that certain family are declining, you could always give them the update on who's responded so far. If they feel it necessary, they'll speak to their family.
I was in a similar situation - DH was disappointed, but you really can't force people to come, you know?

Re: What do I do?
Well they say that about 20% of the guest list decline. Hopefully that is all from his fam that will decline, and that is approx 20% of his family. I am guessing too that the percentage should increase with OOT guests.
I know it would break my heart too. Does your FH seem to be upset about it?

Re: What do I do?
Your right, I can't make them come. I just feel so bad for my FI! Plus, a part of me feels guilty for another reason. My parents are paying for a large amount of the reception. We have a minimum and if we don't reach the min, then I feel like they are throwing away money. I know, it seems petty, I'm sure. It's just a mix of emotions that I'm trying to deal with b/t FI, his family, and my parents! I just want everyone to have a good time and be happy, ya know.

DO NOT call his parents about the declines. I know what you are feeling. FH's brother declined (and he lives in NYC) and 2 of his cousins declined (from NJ). FH was PISSED at first but you know what, the day will go on without them. I simply added more friends to our list that I was holding off on inviting until we had some no's come in

It's tough - you want everyone to share the day together and be happy. And it's not petty - I felt badly for DH when it was happening to us and you don't want to see any money wasted.
BUT if you don't make your minimum, talk to you hall about upgrading some things for you to cover the difference!
