I just spoke to Lands End and they told me as of July 24 you can no longer smoke anywhere except outside - We both smoke - so do 90% of my family and friends - One of the main reasons I liked the place was becasue of the cigar room - I spent almost $2000 to order Cubans -
If I would og known this I would of booked a place in Connecticut - or New Jersey - What do you think I should do - Could you just picture me outside smoking a cig in my big long wedding dress?? What if it rains - do I stand outside an get wet or have a nic fit my whole wedding?????
When I first went there they told me the law did not apply to private caterers - now it does - In my contract it says I could cancel (I think)
What should I do I am soooo upset???

Re: what do i do?????
you can't even smoke in the cigar room?! That is just crazy! Do you think you'd have enough time to find another place? Or maybe is it possible to have the reception outdoors? I've never been to Lands End, so I'm not really sure if having the reception, or at least part of it, outdoors is an option. Good luck with everything. I'm so sorry to hear that this has happened.

Re: what do i do?????
Is smoking that important to you on your wedding day that you would seriously consider cancelling Land's End to find somewhere in CT????
I too smoke, but I've got to quit...not only for my own health...but my FFIL is lying in an ICU room practically in a coma...he's got lung cancer and after a procedure yesterday to put a stint in his lung...one is entirely collapsed...he is not in good shape.
I'm not trying to sit here and preach to you about the dangers of smoking...because like I said, I am a smoker...former smoker soon.
It's entirely up to you...but IMO, I would not cancel Land's End because you can't smoke there.
Please don't take offense to this fallwed...it's just been a very stressful few months since learning of my FFIL's cancer...sorry.

I don't think you should cancel now. See if maybe they will allow you to smoke (secretly) in your bridal suite. Sometimes a little money on the side does wonders. Plus, do you think you will be smoking a lot on your wedding day? You are going to be sooo busy running around that day that you will probably welcome the opportunity to get outside for a minute to smoke, away from the crowd. I don't think you should worry too much about it. It will all work out fine.

Oh, I just noticed your wedding is only 2 1/2 months away!
I agree with the last post, maybe you could get a side room or negotiate some way that you could smoke, especially since it seems to be party of your gift to guests.....
Good luck

I had the same problem. I tried talking to my hall, but no luck since the NY state law went into effect. Is there somewhere covered outside you can go? I am hoping to quit before my wedding, but if I have to, I will be out by the curb in my big white dress!! Good luck

Just my opinion- Honestly, I would NOT change a reception hall b/c of this.

Re: what do i do?????
i was told by my place (woodbury country club) that since the wedding is a private affair that we could smoke inside if we wanted. He said there is some loop in the law that allows this when it is not a 'public' place. i don't know if that has changed since the state law took over, but that was what we were told in March.
