I have a problem. I have been dating FH for 9 years and haven't been calling his parents anything! I was asking around at work and it seems to be a thing my generation does, I'm 26. She was saying once I'm married I should call her something lol. I asked her what she would like and she said whatever I wanted. I can't call her Mrs. whatever because that is too formal, I would feel weird calling her by her first name, and also I would feel weird about calling her mom. At this point anything I call her would be weird though! I was curious to what everyone is going to call their FIL's? Am I alone here?

I call them by their first names. I don't really call his grandparents anything though, although I usually refer to them by what FH calls them when talking to him.

i call them Susan & Steven. FH sometimes calls my mom and stepdad 'mom and dad'

def not alone!!!! weve been together for 6 years and i dont call his parents ANYTHING either lol i even lived with them for almost a year hahah...maybe like 5 times there has been occasions where ive HAD to call FMIL some name because ive called or something and ive called her by her first name...but when we get married she said she doesnt care if i call her mom or not but its just so weird to me uhhhhh hahah

I dated my DH for close to 8 years before we got married and his mom still refers to herself to me as Mrs. soandso...it's weird, especially bc I am a teacher and everyone calls me that!! I call his dad by his first name. My DH calls my parents by their first names and most of my friends do the same with their inlaws, FILs. I agree that it is easier to call them nothing, but at some point they need a name, lol!!! Try the first name thing and see how it feels after a few times. You will get used to whatever you say!

I call them by their first names, but they told me to do that once we got engaged.
ETA: Have FH ask them what they want you to call them once you guys are married. Maybe they'll say mom and dad, maybe they'll say Joe and Sally, hopefully they won't say 'we don't care'!

Yeah if they just told me what to call them it would be a lot easier! The other night I went to my parents and we were saying FMIL's name out loud a lot because maybe if I just got used to saying the name it wouldn't feel weird actually calling HER the name!

I have called FH parents Mom and Dad since like the second day we were dating.... They used to introduce me to everyone as the daughter in law... It felt funny at first but Im so over it now... Its just natural for me now LOL....

I call them by their first names i tried calling his Dad mr.____ and he was like whoa no call me larry lol so that took care of that awkward decision for me

I call his parents by the first names now, but will call them Mom and Dad when we get married.
I call his granparents, Grandma and Grandpa...and I call his aunts and uncles by their first names.

Right now I call them by there first names. there idea not mine! once we are married I'll probably call them mom and dad! There was a pretty funny episode of Everybody Loves Raymond with this topic!

its weird calling them mother and father... I totally agree with you.. this is kinda funny because in korean there is a word for mother-in-law and father-in-law.. and it kinda means mother and father in the same sense.. so i just call them that.. lmao..

Right now I call them Maureen and Frank. I'm not sure if i'm going to call them Mom and Dad after the wedding. Probably not though, feels wierd. But my parents are way old school and expect jimmy to call them mom and dad. FH isnt sure if that will stick or not lol

FMIL introduced herself by her first name the first time I met her- so its pretty natural- I actually want to call her mom after we are married. FH calls my parents by their first names although I think my parents will tell him to call them mom and dad after we are married- he thinks itll be weird but its nice i think

OMG, that is hilarious! I thought I was the only person who struggled with what to call the in laws and I've only got one, w/ no grandparents. I've called FMIL Mrs ____ forever although I know she wouldn't care if I used her first name but would LOVE if I called her mom, she's called me daughter in law since before the engagement. I think i'll call her mom after the wedding since we'll have the same name then

well i've always called FFIL by his first name, Walter, lately we've all been calling him 'WaWa' emulating his wifes 4yr old granddaughter, and his wife, (not fh's mom) i just call her barbara. FH refers to my parents by their first names also. and my grandmother, everyone in the world just calls her Nana, that's who we introduce her lol
i don't plan on calling my ffil 'dad', i have one of those.

I call my FMIL Mom---i have since we really started dating b/c she would introduce me as her FDIL. As for FFIL, i have no idea. Probably by his first name because the situation there is just weird (strange divorce sitaution). I call his grandma 'grandma' and all of his aunts and uncles 'aunt_________ and uncle________' my nephews and niece call him 'Uncle Joe'. They started that themselves right when we started dating...guess they knew.
Do whatever feels comfortable for you. Im sure either way you go, it will be fine with them...hopefully!
