i call them by their first names.....sometimes i refer to them as Marm and Parm b/c that is a thing FH and I do when we talk about parents we call eachothers Mom's Marm but only when talking about them in conversation - I dont say Hi Marm, I say Hi Anna.....sorry if that was confusing...

the rest of his family i call them by what FH calls them - i called grandma grandma, i call pop pop, i say aunt so and so, uncle so and so.....


i guess after the wedding i will call them Mom and Dad that is what FBIL does.....

FMIL passes away.... I usually dont call FFIL anything, but he tells me to call him dad. I think I feel more comfortable with that than Gary... my FH calls my dad by his first name...and I do not believe he calls my mother anything, lol.

it's an awkward situation for eveyone I guess!

Well, in my culture you have to address people from you parents generation as aunty or uncle..

Initially when Imet them, I started to address them as such.. and then once the wedding was finalized, MY mom tells me to start calling them mom and dad.. and my dad was not having any of that..

and his mom was like why don't you call me mom.. and i was after marriage i will..

I have a problem. I have been dating FH for 9 years and haven't been calling his parents anything! I was asking around at work and it seems to be a thing my generation does, I'm 26. She was saying once I'm married I should call her something lol. I asked her what she would like and she said whatever I wanted. I can't call her Mrs. whatever because that is too formal, I would feel weird calling her by her first name, and also I would feel weird about calling her mom. At this point anything I call her would be weird though! I was curious to what everyone is going to call their FIL's? Am I alone here?

FH and I have been together about 5 years. I never refer to his parents as anything either because I didn't know what to say. If anything, I did say Mr. or Mrs. Recently his mom asked me to call them by their first names.

I know that is a nice gesture, but if I'm being completely honest, it wasn't what I always imagined for when I got married. I should also preface this with the fact that I do really like my fil's and that I am incredibly lucky to have a good relationship with them. God knows there are some nightmare stories out there about trouble with the in-laws. In all honesty, I was hoping to call them mom and dad.

My parents always refererred to each other's parents as mom and dad and I really loved that. FH's parents always referred to each other's parents by their first names.

I think it takes major getting used to to start calling another set of people mom and dad, but to me, it makes it feel more like you are really part of the family. My sil calls my parents mom and dad and I love that. I'm sad that FH won't be doing the same and that I won't have that with his family.

my FMIL came to visit us in Oct (she's leaving today) from Poland. And this is the second time that I met her and actually got to know her as a person. so I call her Mrs. Lila. (its a polish formal kinda way) he doesnt know his dad so thats out and he calls my parents mr and mrs... but i think that will change soon after the wedding....
FH cracks me up because he's taking my last name so he says to me,,, aren't you so happy you're going to have this new family? LMAO
and if we're somewhere with your dad they'll think im his son and your the daugther in law...
he cracks me up, but it brings tears to my eyes, because i know that my dad is the dad that my FH never had and my FH is the son that my dad never had. so they're sooo cute together.

That is so sweet that your dad is becoming his father figure and he's becoming the son your dad never had! Awwwwww. Love it!

its really funnie how everyone thought their were the only one with this problem but apparently everyone has this problem lmao

i call FMIL 'crack wh0re'
seriously, she's NOT a crack wh0re but with her personality type it fits. she calls me 'slut' and we do it jokingly the way like Paris and Nicole used to.

is that weird? i think it probably is

when she signs my birthday cards and stuff she uses the nickname of her first name.

when she signs something that is to FH and I she uses 'mimi' which is what FH calls her b/c he couldn't say Mommy when he was little.
He's never called her mom.
