My hair is so damaged and dry from over coloring but I am unwilling to give up coloring. Any suggestions on how to remedy this problem? I also had my hair japanese straight permed so it can be dry from that as well.
I currently use Herbal Essence shampoo and conditioner.
Thanks

Use a 3 minute mask. Alberto makes one, so does Fructis, use it once a week and it should help

I had my hair japanese straigtened too! Do you love it? I don't know how I lived without this! It's amazing. First, I am using a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner- I use Wella which I like alot. Then I put a leave-in conditioner in (Bumble and Bumble) and let it sit for 5 minutes, then rise it out a bit but still leave some in. So far it's been working and making my hair soft.

Someone once recommended Cholesterol treatments. It is usually found in the hair care section geared towards African-American women. Put it on your hair once a week, and wrap it in a warm towel to let it absorb into the hair and rinse it out. I haven't tried it yet, but I was told it works well.

Also try Kerastasse Masque Intense or Kerastasse Oleo' Relax (MAXIMUS or Promanade Cosmetics) I love it, I have very curly hair which I blow out and this keeps it smooth healthy and shiny. I also use a ION blow dryer.

I do love my japanese straight perm and regret not trying it sooner!! Years I have agonized with frizzy unmanageable hair. My hair has not ever been this straight. No more pulling on it to get it stick straight and hours of blow drying. It definitely has cut time in half.

Re: What do you do to remedy dry hair?
Here is a GREAT trick! I used to work at my sisters salon during undergrad and this is the best trick I learned, one that I practice once a week. Do you have National Wholesale liquidators? If so, go buy the conditioning cap, it plugs into the wall and heats up, its about 20 bucks, I think I paid 30 at teh most, then buy a big jar of Queen helene cholesterol treatment, wash your hair, Aveda products are the best I have ever used, but bed head, rusk etc are great too, it all just depends, anyhow, wash your hair, then towel dry it, when theer is no loose water, take the cholestrol and apply it throughout your hair, put a plastic cap on to seal the heat, then put the conditioning cap on, leave it on for 20 minutes ateast, 30 minutes if you have the time!!! you can do it many times a week if ya want, I do it once a week and I am happy, but I used to do it more, I swear, I have told my friends this and we all use it, its AWESOME!!! japanese straightening is great, but can be very damaging, alot of salons wont even do them because they were getting sued, atleast in jersey, they are very damaging. I wanted to do it, but I think my hair would fall out. When my hair appears to be damaged, I also take a break from the blow dryer, its hard, but you can put a nice strong leave in conditioner and put yoru hair in a sleek pony tail, and that way your hair is getting worked on all day! I hope this helps!!!

Bed Head is a hair product line. I love it. Chocolate head is a deep condidtioner that i use once a week. After shampooing and conditioning you leave it in for about 3-5 mins then wash out...It makes my hair feel like silk.. Plus they have a leave in conditioner that is good too.
Bed head is from TIGI...

Cholestorol works very well - you can get it at Sally Beauty Supply. I also use Pantene conditioner - I think it's the one for curly hair. It's really good!

Re: What do you do to remedy dry hair?
I agree with aliciahelene that Japanese straight perm is damaging. I would not recommend it for anyone who has already damaged hair due to over blow drying or coloring.
When I went for my straight perm, I was well aware of the risks involved and particularly nervous about all my hair falling or damaging my hair further. Make sure your hair styists understands your hair and does not have one formula. He looked at my hair and adjusted the concentrations of the chemicals accordingly and he checked my hair every 15 minutes to make sure it was not being over processed. What a good experience, I had to tip him 20 bucks.
Where can I find these bed head products?

Re: What do you do to remedy dry hair?
I use Keratasse Bain Satin shampoo 4 (for the dry dry hair) and Karatasee Masquintence conditioner 4. I used to use Rusk Sensories.. but my hair is SO dry and frizzy from all the dying and I have such THICK hair.. The girl that cuts my hair told me its expensive but I should give it a try. so I did.. OMG i will NEVER USE ANYTHING ELSE.. Even though it costs about 50.00 for them both (and I use the leave in treatment too, which is another 22.00) but my hair has NEVER EVER been this smooth.
I love it. of course if I am just going to shower and stay in I will go back to rusk, because the Karatasse is much to expensive to use for no reason, but if I am blowing out my hair straight then I use it.
I hope I didnt ramble to much.

next time you go for a haircut tell them you want a HENNA I do it like three times a year, your hair will be so soft and silky they put this stuff on and you sit for 45 min to an hour, sometimes just a half hr, the longer the better till it gets nice and hard and then they rinse it out its like 20 bucks I think
