And I dont think favors are a waste, I think they arent always appreciated!!! you are giving your guests awesome food, great entertainment, good drinks, thefavors usually
end up in the trash, its sad but true.

good point! sad, but true...especially when we put so much thought into them!

From a guest's perspective, I would rather see the couple spend their money on something more useful since most of the times I don't use the favor. Sadly it usually ends up in a drawer for a length of time until I get tired of moving it then I either give it away or toss it.

I never really thought of them as a thank you for coming to the wedding, I thought that was what the TY card was for.

favors may or maynot be a waste, but its almost become a standard for the wedding... the older generation would probably wonder where there favor is

Call me crazy, but if the seating card holders are such a waste...then why get them!? Most halls give them to you and you fold them and end of story...so why spend the money on the holders? I don't get it.

I'm first to acknowledge that they are a waste of money because you are giving placecards that serve the same purpose (having people find where they are supposed to sit) but not the purpose of making it extra extra pretty! - if you have a theme - and people walk into the placecard holders and then see the theme throughout the evening - they just realize how well coordinated you have made your wedding, how attentive to detail you were - just makes everything more awe-like -

Like I posted before,

....its all the little things that you do for teh wedding that make your guests realize how perfect an event you planned for them to enjoy with you.

Why are people defending their opinions, its yours, you feel favors, dress, flowers, you are entitled.

I say all of the above, I wish I had rented a dress, but all the above also made my day special in its own way. With or w/o the above my hubby and I could have stood before our pastor in his office, said our I dos saved the money and still would be in love. Living our life and we would not be any less married.

Its every person's preference to have or not have any of the above.

AmenShamma! That is what it is all about! I think sometimes we forget what the real meaning is....

Re: What do you feel is the BIGGEST waste of money?

I say favors and here's my reasoning.. (I almost said seating cards.)

The dress.. well it's a special day.. it should be a special dres.. one you never wear again.

Flowers, etc.. I don't see the huge thing about center-peices.. but I know they make the place look nice.

Invites.. sure.

Seating cards.. only purpose of them is to prevent chaos.. but they can cause much trouble as people find out who they are sitting with.. ('I can't believe they sat me with....')

I say favors.. they're pretty useless. They have no function most of the time and if they do.. the ribbon with the bride and groom's name on it is the only thing worth keeping.

So that's what I think right off the top of my head... who knows.. I could change my mind!

and wouldn't you know.. there's a spam mail from a place for wedding favors in my email box. isn't that just typical? lol

Re: What do you feel is the BIGGEST waste of money?

I'm going to define 'waste' as any wedding expense that causes a couple to go into major debt. I know a woman who is in almost $18,000 of debt just from her wedding. Her hall was expensive enough that she probably could have completely avoided that by picking a less expensive place.

Debt is no way to start off a marriage. It requires enough effort without the addition of the burden of being in the red.

For me - it's favors!! I have so many collecting dust on my shelves and i don't feel that I was less appreciated by the bride and groom at weddings where I didn't get a favor. We are going to make a donation and print it up for the tables and IMO, it's money better spent than on trinkets.

Wow, this post was helpful! Everyone has their own opinions and it helps with decisions during this process, I was going back and forth on Favors which I feel is a useless gesture that is basically a tradition. I feel that they are useless trinkets (waste of money), I also feel like the idea that your guests would feel insulted if they didnt get a favor is really backwards....it's like hello you are giving them a wonderful party with food and entertainment and also inviting them to be apart of a special event, I would take that as a huge compliment and such an honor to be invited, but to be insulted because I didnt' get a shot glass or candle etc..ect..I think more people should try to keep in mind that these days brides and grooms are paying for their weddings and it's not cheap, sometimes you have to cut out things to stay within budget and unfortunately we all do not have carte blanc to get every little wedding detail thats in the books.

Its not on the list, but I say veil.
I only want to wear it for the ceremony, and the one at the bridal shop cost over $200!.
It's NETTING! I know I can get it for less, but its still pretty expensive for netting you wear on your head for an hour.

I am having favors- its a big thing for my mom.
I'm not sure why, but she offerd to pay for them.

I don't think any money I spend on my wedding day will be 'waisted money'. Expensive, yes but in my eyes money well spent.

Why are any of thema waste, if you are trying to make your wedding beautifula nd memorable, why would flowers be a waste?

Aren't favors a thank you to the guests that came?

Don't you want to look beautiful for you one and only wedding day in a gorgous dress?

I think every aspect of my wedding was important, done to the hand made placecards i made.

Re: What do you feel is the BIGGEST waste of money?

I voted for the flowers because out of all the things on the list, those are typically what people would spend the most on .... so IMO it's the biggest waste. I know they make everything look nice, but they DIE. I dunno, that's just my feeling...

But in reality, I think everything on that list is a waste besides the dress. Invitations wind up in the garbage and I can't think of a single wedding invitation from someone else's wedding that I remember, placecard holders are nice for tying a theme together but most people won't notice or care, favors are far too often unappreciated and disposed of. The dress, to me, is not a waste because you have to feel absolutely beautiful on your wedding day.

I say the Flowers.

I say favors, flowers and thank you cards.

The favors and ty cards most people throw out and Flowers seem like a waste. We just started looking at florist and the prices are absolutly crazy. I don't even think we're going to do flowers for the guys.
