Placecard holders followed closely by favors. I think most favors are cheesey - no offense - and I wind up either sticking them in back of a closet or tossing them. Placecards can stand up on their own so holders are a waste - to me.

Invitations are important to me. They give the guests a peek at what to expect on your wedding day - if you put effort into finding something unique - again, JMO. I honestly don't care who throws them away - I'M not, so I want something I really love and not something I just settled on. With that said, I still wouldn't pay more than $700 on them.

favors and seating card holders...not doing either...they'll get the seating card that the hall gave me and not doing favors cuz it doesn't fit my budget.

how are favors a waste?

YOu are giving them to your guests saying Thank you for attending my wedding!

The concept of favors, is not a waste. But people's choices of favors - IMO - are rarely useable/someone's taste. Half the time they look like something the bride and groom scrambled to pick out just to have something.

I don't think any of it is a waste, if I did, I wouldn't do it. Ambiance, good food, favors my guests will enjoy and a kick ASS dress were all important to me as well as all the other little details that make-up a beautiful wedding, so I am willing to spend the $$$.

100% agreed Ronnie&Theresa. I think that is one of the necessary things. It's like, 'oh, thanks for coming to my wedding and giving US a generous gift....OH yeah, sorry, I thought giving you one was a waste.'

I'm not trying to offend anyone. It's my preference to have them.

Not on your choices, but for me personally I think limos are the biggest waste (which is why I'm trying to spend very little $$ on them if possible)

My hotel to church, and church to recept is very close together distance wise.. I just don't get all that excited about being in a fancy schmantzy car, I don't want a hummer or escalade, or a Rolls, etc. I know - boring.

I'm probably in the minority here on that one. It's nice for a couple pics (which I'd probably not even order from my proofs) but you are much busier doing other things with the majority of your wedding day!

Second I'd vote for invites. I am probably the ONLY bride who is not excited about picking out invitations.

Personally, I think something is only a waste of money if you decide you have to have top of the line everything. $500 on invitations is okay, $1000 is kind of crazy.

Favors are not a waste if people use them. FH and I are doing Lindt truffles and heart shaped soaps. Most people we know like chocolate and soap is always useful. I hate getting favors that I will never use because i have my own style or have no room for them(picture frames, candle holders, cream and sugar set, salt and pepper set)

seating cards. we have the option of having several waiters stand at the entrance and tell the guests which table they are seated at. i think we might opt to do this becuase IMO although the placeholders are a nice affect, they aren't necessary.

Let's just say I wanted a reasonable hall price, which we found. Most places I think who they are, asking for what they did, especially for a winter wedding. I guess favors would have to be the most waste, b/c everything else is most imprtant to make your day special, photos, entertainment. Saving for a house the same time is my priority. We would like to find one asa we are back from HM; if not before.

I totally disagree. I think as along as you can afford it $1000. is not crazy to spend on invites, they are after all a guest's first impression of your affair. In fact, top of the line everything is wonderful if you can afford it. I personally think it is crazy to spend any amount of money on something that is not good quality.

I think that the place card holders are a waste of money - I am still spending a lot on mine though because they work perfectly with my theme - I do really think its all the little things that you do for teh wedding that make your guests realize how perfect an event you planned for them to enjoy with you.

In retrospect, the only thing I regretted spending so much on was my gown.

After all was said and done it was quite expensive and I would have preferred putting that money somewhere else. I loved my it and I felt beautiful but I know I could have found something I loved for a quarter of what I spent on the one I had.

All the other choices are arbitrary. They are things that you have or don't have. If you don't think it's worth it, you wont have it or spend the money on it.

We didn't do seating card frames - are they necessary? No. Are they a nice touch? Yes.

We centerpieces included with the catering price. Were they adequate? Yes. Did we use them? No. We wanted something completely different.

You could do this for every single aspect of the day. Everyone's priorities, tastes and budget are different. I don't think it's right to say something is OK but that it's a waste if it cost $X. It goes along the lines of saying someone is cheap if they don't have seating card frames. It's not a nice way to phrase things.

Like that line of thinking!

I also think opinions could differ depending on budget. If there is someone out there that has an unlimited budget than they might purchase things that those of us with a small strict budget may deem a waste of $.

I don't think the IDEA of favors is a waste...it is a nice gesture, and there's nothing wrong with that. But honestly, favors are most commonly smaller, less expensive trinkets from the bride and groom....but all these trinkets add up to a lot of $$$$, especially if the bride and groom are paying for the wedding themselves....so it's HARD to try and find something USEFUL and TASTEFUL that won't just be thrown away....and I speak for myself when i say I cant afford $8 a favor for 200+ people. I would much rather spend that money on more food, better dj/entertainment...

just my opinion on the favor thing....

For those who think table cards are a waste, do a seating chart, I made mine, it turned out beautifully and I bought a gorgeous frame for it at Michales, which I will use for a wedding picture, so NOTHING was wasted
