Seating cards. They are necessary but I am sure people spend more money on them than needed.

Interesting question... I agree with all of the above. It's hard to pick just one.
As for favors, I am not doing favors. Unless their food, they just ending causing clutter. I have actually never been to a wedding that gave out favors- but i have received them at bridal showers, etc.... If anyone else is like me, I can't throw things away and then my place just gets too cluttered with junk.
Dress- I wish I could rent one, but you can't in NYC- trust me I tried. But I love my dress and it was under my budget so I can't complain.
Flowers- they are so pretty, but they $1000s of dollars for something that will be enjoyed for about 4 hours max. too much...
especially when you think about what this day really is- a celebration that two people who love each other and are joining their lives. What do flowers and favors and the rest have to do with all that.
But it is a day we will all remember- and whatever makes it special...

I say favors, flowers and thank you cards.
Oh no - TY cards are a must. Better than favors - they are the best way to say thank you to your guests, especially if you personalize them to the guest. I don't think they are a waste at all. (BTW - i choose seating cards because out of all the choices I think that is the least important - but I would have chosen limos if they were on the list)

I say place card holders...it is the one thing I'm doing without. FH wanted them, but I overruled him!!!
We are doing tent cards, but putting rose petals on the table in between the rows...I saw a picture of this and it looked really nice.

I think alot of wedding related stuff is out of control price wise.. Short funny story..
I recently called a DJ on a lark.
First I called and asked about a wedding for five hours, with dj & mc $1900
Then I thought about it.. called back and asked about a sweet 16, for the same thing without an mc.. $750
I was like ***??? urghhhhh!!!!

I think flowers too. Nobody remembers, it seems like alot of money to blow off for something that will die in a couple of days. We are not even getting lappell flowers for the guys. Our photog set is wasn't going to look bad when wqe asked. So we skipped it. We need all the help we can get now with saving money.

I also go with flowers. It's so much $$$$. I told my parents and they were like can't we order from Costco or BJ's?

i think 'special' seating cards and holders. the hall GIVES them to you for FREE! why waste the money on something most people won't notice. ive never been to a wedding with seating card holders... and i'd probably not know what the heck to do with it when i took it home.
some people may think its a special touch, but its just unnecessary. JMO.
as for flowers, i have ALWAYS noticed the centerpieces and the bouquets! ive seen some shabby ones and it does leave an impression.

do you mean place cards or table #'s. you can skip the place cards, but not the tables #. i agree that menus are not necessary, neither are favors.
