what do you girls think....
Both me and my FH lost a parent. My mother passed away from cancer when I was 7 and my FH father also from cancer 8 years ago. We wanted to think of a unique way to incorporate them into our weddings. Obviously their spirit will always be there, because they were two of the most loved and respected people in our families. Our wedding night will also be special because I am the first granddaughter (my mother's mom) to be married, and also the only girl....
Anyway I think me and the FH just came up with a great and unique way to have our loved ones shared in our wedding. We are both Jewish and it is a jewish tradition to be married under a wedding canopy called the chuppa. It is supposed to symbolize the jewish home you will build with your new spouse. Often times there is a fabric roof and 4 poles with flowers to decorate it.
Our idea is to have my mother's wedding gown and my FH's father's Talis (a garment the man wears on his bar mitzvah when he becomes a man in the eyes of judiasm) made into the canopy, so it will be like the are standing under the chuppa with us like they are supposed to. We are also going to exchange our parents wedding bands during the ceramony.
what I like most about the Chuppa idea is that eventually when my younger brother gets married he can use it at his wedding too. My mom's sister also wore the same dress so her 2 boys can also have it at their weddings when their time comes.
