what do you girls think about..

IMO - Don't do it. YOu are better off just running the envelopes through the printer. YOu spent a ton of money on beautiful invitations, don't put cheap clear labels on them.

I agree, you couid run it through your printer but I would have a company do it for you. You don't want to risk jamming the envelopes on your printer. One company that a lot of brides use is called Inkspun.

ETA: I wouldn't use the labels. You are spending all this money on invites and putting them together is a pain in the a$$. It may cost a bit more to have them printed but it will be worth it.

Re: what do you girls think about..

Our envelopes cant fit through a printer so we bought an embosser which will imprint the envelope with our address

but...we just recieved a friends wedding invite with labels on the outside and the return address.

Im so sick of etiquette making people second guess themselves....if i didnt have a funky envelope, id be putting clear labels on in a sec!!!!!

thanks girls..im just debating wether i should worry about what people think of the labels for the address..i mean this is a minor detail..its not like i didnt put effort into everything else im doing..its just hard..my invites are very simple but elegant..nothing really dramatic..but i love them..this is just confusing me but i appreciate the help!!

I'd put clear labels on it too! Knowing how I am, I'd ruin half of my envelopes to get it right.

I had a friend who did this...they came out nice. It didn't look cheap at all. I've seen envelopes that were hand written and looked like crapola, so I give her credit...they were nice.

We're lucky enough that my FSIL/BM has amazing handwriting and just so happens to do calligraphy.

I wouldn't spend the extra money for someone else to do it...half the time it's in the garbage anyway. JMHO

I would research some calligraphers before making your decision. You can get beautiful envelopes at reasonable prices. I suggest Inkspun. They did fabulous work!!

I agree.

Its time consuming, but you can run 1 envelope at time through the printer - I did and they came out beautiful, everyone thought had them, done professionally.

And anyway some Calligraphy places put them through the printer too!

I couldnt agree more w/ your last statement. I seriously doubt someone is going to look at the outer portion of your envelope and say 'Oh i cant go to this wedding, she used LABELS on the envelope'. To be honest, if i rec'd a wedding invite w/ labels on it i would think, 'oh, theyre doing it this way nowadays huh?' and thats it!!!

Re: what do you girls think about..

I think it really all depends on how much you invested in your invitations. If you went all out and then 'skimped' on the labels, kinda steals the whole thunder of the fancy invitation. But if you went simple, then I don't think a clear label is a big deal. Esp if it's easier for you.

I personally am not a fan of the labels, and yes, I do notice when people use them. However, do I think any less of them or their wedding? Absolutely not - do whatever you think is the easiest thing that YOU find acceptable

I made my own invites and got nothing but (unsolicited) compliments on them. I used clear labels and I used metallic copper envelopes. I printed all the names in a font called majik. They came out beautifully. Unfortunately the envelopes wouldn't run through my printer(nor the printer's because of the texture)Do what you want! No one cares about labels really.

I vote for labels...

If anyone thinks less of you because of it, its their issue. I don't think it 'ruins the pretty invitations' or anything.

I used clear labels on mine and they came out great. Why spend a few hundred on a calligrapher when people just throw the envelope out? I was afraid to run the envelope through the printer incase it ruined it....you only get so many envelopes. Most invitations I get in the mail have clear labels also.

I may get reamed for this (no PAPER pun intended) but...

I don't like labels or printers. Just my personal preference. I much prefer hand calligraphy if it is affordable - especially on a simple formal invitation for a formal function.

I also think that how much you spend on your invitations is irrelevant. I prefer a very simple invitation that will convey the formality of my wedding without saying 'look what I spent on my invitations'. Every invitation I am interested in, I like not because of price, but because of it's simplicity.

I think you should use the clear labels if you want, it is for an envelope that is going to get ripped anyway. Think about before you were engaged did you ever take notice of whether an invite had a label on it or not? the clear labels are hardly noticeable anyway. The only time I have ever commented on an invitation I received is when I got one that was handwritten and it was horrible writing. Do what you want it is your wedding.
