What do you think??

What do you think??

A friend of mine offered to make CDs for me as wedding favors. She said she would enjoy doing them. I paid for all the materials ($100). I also planned on getting her a gift certificate to a restaurant and/or paying for te ink she used as a thank you. I got a phone call today from her saying she has been thinking (uh oh). She has put alot of time into these and she is going to make this our wedding gift. I said that was fine and after thinking about it I got a weird feeling. I paid for the supplies and I'm not sure if what she said/did is rude or perfectly fine. What do you think?

I don't know if everyone will agree with me, but she should still give you a gift.

I designed programs and donation scrolls for a friend's wedding. I spent about 8 hours working on designing, editing and printing. I was happy to help her and I thought it would have been rude to go to the wedding empty handed.

I think I would be annoyed at this also...since you paid for the supplies....but if helps...I made 100 CD's with 17 songs on them...plus the labels for the CD's and Jewel Cases. To put everything together took about a total of 15 hours.

Yep, she should give you a gift. She volunteered to help AND you paid for the supplies.

I am always doing things like this for my friends when they get married and I still give gifts.

Not much you can do about it though..just be gracious and thank her.

I think she should give you a gift also - she offered to do the CD's AND you did purchase the materials. Sticky situation.....good luck!

I think it was rude to tell you NOW that this is going to be your wedding gift, especially since you paid for the supplies.

I always hate when friends turn favors into gifts.

When my cousin got married, her good friend, and bridesmaid made all of the programs and that was her gift to my cousin. But, she did own a business doing those types of things, and they looked AWESOME. But, she also covered the cost of all of the materials and told my cousin upfront that she would do them as the wedding gift...

i don't think it's right for her to tell you now that it's going to be your wedding gift. but just be gracious and thank her, but i think you no longer need to get her any certificates or anything anymore!

I agree with this....If she had said something from the beginning I would have felt differently.

I dont think she realized the amount of work she'd be putting in when she volunteered to take on the project. she'll probably give you a gift in the end....i woulnt worry too much, just let it be.

I agree it takes a LOT of time to do...I'm doing them for us, but....you paid for the supplies, etc..... She should still give a gift...JMHO.

Well I dont think it is rude, I do think it was an easy way of getting out of BUYING you a present considering you help pay for it. So to me its like her sayin hey i helped now i dont have to pay so you basically paid for your own wedding gift

We made a CD for our wedding and it was VERY VERY time consuming. We also made 100 of them and I'd estimate that it cost a bit more then $100. The CDs were around 40, plus we spent just under $100 on the labels (ordered them online), plus the glassine envelopes, ribbon and all the supplies to dress them up. I'll try to get a finished picture of one on here, and we did it as inexpensively as we could!

I think it was very generous of your friend to offer to make them for you. I wouldn't have minded if somone did them for us as a gift. Maybe the details should have been worked out more beforehand, but when it comes down to it she probably put a lot of work into it and I'm sure you'll love them.

She should have said that before you bought the materials. SOunds like she is trying to get out of buying a gift and is using this as a reason not to give you a gift. There's nothing you can really say or do, but it's really kind of shady of her.

I agree, she's totally rude-but it's not worth stressing over, just write it off to her being obnoxious!

Yeah, I would agree with you...I would be ticked off since it is not like she paid..she was supposed to be doing this to help you out or be nice but she had motives not to give you a gift.
That is not nice!!! I am so sorry because it sounds as though it was a really nice offering and she turned it into something to substitute a gift for. Tell her she doesn't get a favor at the wedding then
