What do you think??

Original post by FutureMrs

A friend of mine offered to make CDs for me as wedding favors. She said she would enjoy doing them. I paid for all the materials ($100). I also planned on getting her a gift certificate to a restaurant and/or paying for te ink she used as a thank you. I got a phone call today from her saying she has been thinking (uh oh). She has put alot of time into these and she is going to make this our wedding gift. I said that was fine and after thinking about it I got a weird feeling. I paid for the supplies and I'm not sure if what she said/did is rude or perfectly fine. What do you think?

Thanks everyone. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't the looney one. I will probably just let it go but I couldn't help but feel a little annoyed. I don't think I could ever say that to a friend that I was helping out.

I had a 'Friend' like that.
I hired him to do something at my wedding.. I was paying him for the materials AND for labor and a few weeks before the wedding he emailed me saying it was also my wedding gift
If it is my gift then I shouldn't have had to pay him.

Oh well we were upset but what could we do?
DH can't wait till his wedding rolls around

Re: What do you think??

I just think the better approach for her would have been to tell you that maybe she was going through a rough time, she didn't have a lot of $$ and felt terrible but that shed help any additional way she could aside from the CD's.

THAT way she wouldn't have come across as rude...the way she did that is pretty rude in my opinion. Its not the $$ or gift that matters really...she just should have approached it a diff. way!

i don't think it's right for her to tell you now that it's going to be your wedding gift. but just be gracious and thank her, but i think you no longer need to get her any certificates or anything anymore!

I agree!

I agree too!!! and that's very rude attitude too.
I hate when people do thing to me

Did you offer to pay her for her time?

I think its weird - I would feel like you do. Thankful for the time, but not as a replacement. If this was a bridal shower, I could understand that - IF she paid for the materials. But since she didn't even pay for anything... thats just not right!

Re: What do you think??

She should still give a gift! I threw a shower for a friend and spent around $700 and if I add up all the time, probably 100 hours! Literally it took months to get it all together and I cooked all the food. I'm not in the bridal party so it wasn't expected of me, its just that we live out of state from where her bridal party and family live and I knew she'd want some sort of celebration of her wedding in the place where she lives. I offered and knew what I was getting into.

We'll still give a wedding gift and I also chipped in for the bachelorette party b/c her bridal party asked for money. That part bothered me a bit since her mother threw her other shower and I threw this one, I feel that the bridal party could have at least threw the bachelorette party, but now I'm venting sorry!

If I were you, I would just let this go. Even though I don't agree with her.

she's spending hours on the project even though you bought the supplies.

Look at it this way, what if you gave her a $50 gift card and paid for the ink (easily another $50) and she gave you $100 as a wedding gift.

6 of one, 1/2 a dozen of another.
