What do you think of a Thurs. night wedding in the summer?
Original post by Sandygirl
The best time for me to get married is in the summer, but the price per person at most places is astronomical for those months. An alternative seems to be a Thursday night during the summer, which is the price of off season weekends. I come from a family of teachers, so it seems kind of ideal. Many people have shortened hours on Fridays in the summer as well, so I'm considering it.
What do you think? I would love some feedback to see what you'd do if you were invited to a Thursday night summer wedding!
Thanks!

We talked about doing this but we ultimately went for a Sunday night wedding. If u have a Thursday night wedding, your RD would be on Wednesday night---which may be inconvenient if anyone is coming from OOT. For our Sunday night wedding, guests were able to work Friday, travel Saturday, attend the wedding on Sunday and travel home on Monday. People who live close ****** it up and went to work on Monday if they couldn't get off from work. Also, my bridal party didn't have to take off from work on Sunday to get their hair and make-up done. For us, it wound up being the most convenient.
I'm just offering my experience....do whatever works best for you!

Im a teacher so a Thursday night wedding in the summer would not be a problem for me. Having said that I honestly think I would like a Thursday night wedding better then a Sunday night wedding because its only 1 day of work and then the weekend. I am not a fan of Sun night weddings only because I know I have a whole work week in front of me and I am going to be exhausted. I say go for whatever works best for you!

I think you should do what makes you happy. My reasoning is thus: No matter what day, time, place, etc. etc. you pick, someone will complain about it. Therefore, you need to make sure you & FH are happy.
However, if this is of ANY help: I've heard people saying that a lot of places are giving off Friday, July 3, this year since the 4th will be on a Saturday.

Do what you and FH can afford, those who are close to you will be at your wedding no matter what. I ended up going with a saturday day wedding to save $, and i am getting the june wedding i always wanted but never thought possible!

I am getting married on Memorial Day Monday during the day! I took guff from a bunch of people for it. But, quite frankly, it is MY wedding. The people that love you will make the effort and be there. The people that don't - frig 'em!

Hmmmm.... the one good thing is that it's a family of teachers. But on the other hand are the majority of your guests teachers? If not they might have a problem with that day. Not just because they have work the next day but also they will be working that day too. So they might not be able to make it to a 6 pm wedding and they would probably want to leave early becuase they have work in the morning.
Personally.. if I was invited to a Thursday night wedding... unless I was super close with the couple I would decline. I have work all week until 5:30- I get home around 7 pm. To then get dressed and go to a wedding... the EARLIEST I could get there would be 8 and that's pushing it... then I have to be up at 6:30 the next day. If I was really close with the couple I could possibly consider taking the Friday off and maybe leaving early from work on Thursday. But not all jobs are accomidating to those things... and people generally like to use their vacation days for other things.
I think overall though... you need to do what's right for you. Understand that it might be a smaller wedding because it's on a Thursday but also the people who matter most to you and those who are the closest to you will be able to swing it for you.
Personally the Sat nights were sooo expensive so we went for a Friday night wedding. Sunday or Sat day weddings were not an option for us... we like to drink and party it up. Which is also why Thursday wasn't an option either.
What if you did a Friday of a holiday weekend? Or a Sunday on a holiday weekend? There are other ways to cut costs. Also, are you asking the halls for numerous dates and prices? Ask for every thrus, fri, sat and sun for all of july and august or whatever months you were looking into. My friend did it that way and she got the best deals!!!!

Just like anything you'll do for your wedding, some will have no problem with it and others might get a bit annoyed but hey they'll just deal with it.
I'll be honest and say i'd probably be annoyed having to rush to get home from work, get dressed and rush out and travel to the wedding but once im there i would be 100% fine. Also i can stay out very late and still wake up the next day so i wouldnt take off the next day. Ive attended many sunday weddings and stayed until midnight or later and then have to travel home after and went to work early the next day. If people can't do that they can leave a little bit earlier

You plan based on what is best for you, your family, and the closest friends that you care to have attend your wedding. If guests are put off by a Thursday wedding, then that is a choice they have to make.
Personally, it all depends upon my relationship with the bride and groom or their parents if I were to attend a Thursday wedding. Both my husband and I would have to take a half day on Thursday, then either take a full day off on Friday or leave the reception early. We both don't have shortened hours on Friday summers.
If the relationship is casual, then it would be regrets and a gift in the mail.

While i have never been invited to a thurs night wedding, i dont think id be a fan of it either... That is really tough for some people... If you do go that route, i would brace for some more no's than normal IMO.... But regardless, your family and close friends will be there with you no matter what day
