What do you think of a Thurs. night wedding in the summer?

Original post by Sandygirl

The best time for me to get married is in the summer, but the price per person at most places is astronomical for those months. An alternative seems to be a Thursday night during the summer, which is the price of off season weekends. I come from a family of teachers, so it seems kind of ideal. Many people have shortened hours on Fridays in the summer as well, so I'm considering it.

What do you think? I would love some feedback to see what you'd do if you were invited to a Thursday night summer wedding!

Thanks!

I am getting married the day before Thanksgving and that is a Wednesday. MOG kind of caught an attitude about it but it is what we could afford and that is that. She is over it and after we explained it she was happy.

Do what is best for you because if people are going to come they will come no matter when it is.

I've been to a Thursday night wedding. It was July 5th. So they figured people would make a long weekend out of it. It really depends. No matter how you slice it, someone is going to find your day and time inconvenience. Do what works best for you.

Honestly, I am having my wedding on a Sunday night in November where Monday is not a holiday and I did it this way because it cut the cost to fit in my budget. I know that you think of your guests when you are planning BUT you ultimately have to do what you can afford. I know that there will be a higher non attending response rate but I will just invite more people and hopefully that will fill in the gaps here and there. I know that people who cannot come are not staying home because they don't care, they just can't make it. Don't rack your brain trying to think of what will be the most convenient for your guests because you are paying for this party and it is a joyous time! If someone close to me was having a wedding on a thursday night I would definitely go with a smile beccause it's a wedding! Good luck planning.

We talked about a weekday evening wedding but felt most of our close friends you not be able to see us actually get married (we both have very small families) so we decided that the difference btw a Saturday or Sunday evening was not that much so we chose Sat.

If you feel most of the important people can make it go for it.

You get a great deal before all the other brides start doing this and it becomes common and the prices skyrocket

I'm torn- because i saw a RH that I LOVED and the prices were INSANE so the lady tried to talk me into a Thursday wedding- she said it was the new thing to do-i really considered it- but i kinda think she was just telling me that to make a sale-

i just started thinking how would I feel if I got invited to a Thursday ngiht wedding and I think its still a little weird- sorry just my opinon- i would rather do a twlight on a sunday or look for a holiday weekend where alot of people have off on that monday-

Im a teacher also and have no problem with it...when I was checking out RHs, 2 BMs (at different RHs) told me that Thursday night was becoming the most popular night for weddings...one of them said that every single Thurs night was booked last summer (meaning summer of 07 lol). I think you should do what's good for you and your FH and families...go for it

You can also start a new post and ask if anyone here already had a Thursday night wedding and what their experiences were, any regrets, problems etc!!

Well then we might as well ask about a wednesday night also...cause thats when mine is! I have spent countless amount of dollars on going out thanksgiving eve. I never ever get up until 3 for dinner, and my whole fam is the same way and so are my friends. I saved soo much money, 100 dollars off a plate! Im getting married at a place that cost about 220-230 dollars a head on a sat. I wouldnt do it..never. My invite is 240! I am a homeowner already with bills out the behind. I am comfortably paying for my wedding now. Ive heard some wierd remarks when ppl were told, but after thinking about it, they all said. Nothing starts till 3, and everyone is off! So find ways to make it work...u can do it!

I have walked into work totally hung over for just a simple night out, why wouldnt i do it all over again for someones wedding! I would party till its over and walk into work with last nights makeup as if i went to mirage on ladies night

I have spoken to a catering hall that offers a thursday night in the summer for $55 pp, as opposed to $65 for a sunday. When I heard the price, it got me thinking!!

Thats an AWESOME price either way!!!! What hall is this? A friend of mine is looking at places.

I would go, but I wouldn't be happy about it the next morning LOL. Morning person, I am not, even when I go to bed at 10. I also am not a teacher, so I am not off in summer, and it is hard for me to take time off at my job, so it would be a hardship as a guest. I have to go to a Friday wedding this summer, and I had to go through hoops for the time off.

IMO, I wouldnt do it. I am having a Friday night wedding and Im already hearing how people are going to have to take off work... which is fine with them, but if they had to take off Thursday and possibly Friday... that might be a problem.

The people who really want to be there will make it to your wedding....but just know that some people might leave early. It'll still be a beautiful wedding regardless of what day its on... as long as you are okay with it, then its all good. Do whats going to make you happy!

Unless it was a really close friend, I doubt I'd go. I don't have shortened summer hours on Fridays, so a Thursday night wedding would be totally inconvenient for me.

Look into having it on a holiday weekend. July 4th is on a Sunday so offices and works MAY BE closed on Monday, July 5th. Maybe you can have it on that date?

A LOT of people will have rude and annoying things to say to you if you schedule it for a Thursday night that isn't the day before a holiday, because it screws people up for TWO days of work. Just because you may be off for the summer doesn't mean everyone else will be.

Personally, I wouldn't care and I would go to the wedding with a smile on my face. But we just have to keep in mind that we are all young and eager, and a lot of people are grouchy and stuck in their ways. Just be prepared to hear a lot of complaints lol.

Have you looked into a Saturday or Sunday afternoon? I think an afternoon wedding in the summer would be gorgeous.

Good Luck

Re: What do you think of a Thurs. night wedding in the summer?

I just booked a Thursday wedding! I say go for it! It's your wedding and if it makes the best sense for you to do it, anyone who can make it...will. I got a great deal from CLM for doing it on a Thurs. Also you will get alot of vendor discounts for it being a 'off day'.

My ceremony starts at 4pm, CH at 6pm and everything will be done by 11pm. I figured that the worst case scenario would be some people need to leave work on Thursday at around 3pm. I undstand this can be a big inconvenience. However, anyone taking off the next day, or working half of a day on Friday is up to them.

Also, if anyone REALLLLLY needed to get enough sleep for work on Friday, they are more than welcome to leave the reception early, I wouldn't mind. I appreciate anyone coming, no matter how long they stayed. IMO.

Re: What do you think of a Thurs. night wedding in the summer?

personally, i'd prefer a saturday or sunday afternoon reception as a guest. i commute into the city and don't have a job with shorter summer hours, and it can be hard to take either 1 or two days off for this when i don't have tons of vacation time to begin with.

if it was a close friend or family member of course i'd be there regardless and i would never say anything to the bride/groom about how it might be inconvenient to me or anything cause that's not my place.

bottom line is you have to do what is best for you when you plan your wedding. just be prepared for anything and don't worry too much about people saying no or leaving early.

Did you look into day weddings in the summer or friday or sunday evenings?

I think ultimately you have to do whats best for you... friends and family will find a way to be there.

If i got invited to a thursday wedding I would probably whine about it but I would def. make arrangments to go if it was a good friend or family... but thats me, I whine.

I think you should def. have it a little earlier than normal weddings though if you are goign to do it thursday. I once went to a Sunday night wedding (for my boss who didnt let me take off that monday) and they didnt serve dinner until almost 10pm.. it was horrible I ate and ran. Give your guests enough times to enjoy themselves and stay for the entire thing even if they have work the next day.

Re: What do you think of a Thurs. night wedding in the summer?

Honestly I would look to try and have it on a Sunday. I had a very small budget and could not afford the prices i was given they were well over 100 bucks but on a Sunday I got a far better price. I had my wedding on a Sunday from 5:30-10:30pm and it worked out well. Although people have work the next day they are relaxed and rested enough from friday and saturdaty to go on a sunday night if it ends earlier i would say around 10 or 10:30. No matter when you have it people always leave a little early anyway. Thursday....honestly Jewish people do it all the time and it works out fine. I work for a jewish family office and as long as it is at a reasonable hour like 6:00-11:00 then it is fine. Almost all practicing hisidic jews have it on a wednesday or thursday. Besides Some people go out on weeknights until later hours and still make it to work the next day. Do whatever works best for you. The people who care and want to be there will be there regardless of date or time.
