What do you think of a Thurs. night wedding in the summer?

What do you think of a Thurs. night wedding in the summer?

The best time for me to get married is in the summer, but the price per person at most places is astronomical for those months. An alternative seems to be a Thursday night during the summer, which is the price of off season weekends. I come from a family of teachers, so it seems kind of ideal. Many people have shortened hours on Fridays in the summer as well, so I'm considering it.

What do you think? I would love some feedback to see what you'd do if you were invited to a Thursday night summer wedding!

Thanks!

I don't know if you are interested, but in addition to thursdays, we got some really good quotes for Saturday & Sundays daytime receptions in the summer.

Thursday night on a weekend where friday isnt a holiday could be a problem for your guests. What time on thursday are you planning for? If your guests have to go to work on friday they may leave your reception early.

But on the other hand your close friends and family will make arrangements to be at your wedding no matter what day its on. I would say ask a few people who you THINK it might be a problem for and see what their response is. If they so ' I will be there no matter what' then go for it. If it seems like a problem then you might want to reconsider. You dont want to spend thousands on a wedding and reception and no one shows up

Also coming from a family of teachers it's definitely convenient for you and I don't think anyone else will mind too much.

I've been a guest at 2 Thursday night summer weddings (one in July one in August). I wasn't a huge fan of it. I'm a paralegal. I don't have shortened summer hours. For one I had to take a half day off on Thursday (was working in NYC wedding was in Sayville) and then took the whole day off on Friday because there was no way I could go to a wedding and still get up to make my 6:15 am train.

For the other, I was working on LI but still had to leave work at 3 instead of 5 in order to get ready. Took half a day on Friday so I could sleep in a bit but went in for Friday afternoon.

It was a PITA. That being said - both weddings were weddings of good friends of mine and I wouldn't have missed it for the world!

What weekends have Friday as a holiday? That would be awesome if I could coordinate a Thursday wedding with a Friday holiday!

Re: What do you think of a Thurs. night wedding in the summer?

I just went to a Sunday night wedding in NJ a few weeks ago. Honestly, it was inconvenient, but we went and had a good time. I did have to take a day off in the summer that I would have rathered used for something else, but it is what it is. I would have taken the Monday even if it wasn't OOT because I would not want to have to get up and go to work on Monday after a wedding that ended at 12:30am.

It seems from reading on here that a lof of girls will pick a Thursday or Sunday night and then be upset that people say it's inconvenient or if people say they can't attend for a variety of reasons. A lot of girls will say that if people love you they will just be there, but honestly especially in this economy it's more difficult for people to take time off work. It isn't always a reflection on how people feel about you.

Also keep in mind, especially on a Thursday it will be difficult for people to make the ceremony and then also take off Friday (depending on what time your reception ends and how far they have to travel).

All that being said, you need to do what's best for you and a lot of this may be a non issue if most of your crowd are teachers. As a guest, yes it's inconvenient, but I certainly went to the wedding I mentioned and had a blast. I don't mean any of these comments as a criticism against girls who have chosen Thursday weddings, but the reality is there are some trade offs that you need to consider. You're the best judge of how your family and friends will feel about it.

Re: What do you think of a Thurs. night wedding in the summer?

I'm having one in June of '11!!..I was trying to settle & have it on an off season month but the truth is I love pink!! & june!! & that's what I always wanted in my heart. So when we were told we could have it any month on a Thursday for half the price we said ok!! I thought the same thing I didnt want to inconvenience people but you know what??... I have gone to plenty of Sunday night weddings & didn't leave early. That's what FH & I decided. This was the way for us to do it financially. I had no problem getting up for work on a Monday morning & we figured at least people will have just Friday to work after our wedding & then the weekend to recover if they do not take off..You just do what is best for you. GOOD LUCK! :)

It could be hard for some of your guests...but the most importsnt people in ur life will make sure they are there to celebrate with u!!

If I was ur friend or family I'd be fine and just take off fridy, but my FH would not really have that flexab ility....so it depends on ur guests schedules

It depends on your hall. My hall was crazy on thursdays. I wanted to do it to cut cost and they said it's still a night. So my only option was Saturday or Sunday afternoon wedding in June, July and August was more reasonable. ON the other hand I called another RH today and they said it was wayyyyyyyyyy cheaper on thursday night.

I have spoken to a catering hall that offers a thursday night in the summer for $55 pp, as opposed to $65 for a sunday. When I heard the price, it got me thinking!!

i am getting married on a thursday night. when i asked about 25 of our family and friends what they thought before i booked, they said 'ill be there whenever you get married' that said, i understand that there will be a LOT less people at the ceremony than if i was getting married on a saturday. actually friday was my 1st choice so i understood that some pple wouldnt make it to the ceremony.

i also know, of my close freinds and family, who has inflexible jobs and who might go home early or not make it (1 person cant make it). as long as youre ok with these drawbacks, go for it!

having so many teachers as freinds, its not such a problem for me.

I'm telling you!! come over to 'the other side!!' haha no really though you can put those thousands you spend towards something else for the wedding or in our case a house!!

Is it very different from the price of a Saturday/Sunday afternoon? I know usually those times are cheaper. I'd say do what's best for you, but be prepared for a lot of sh!t coming your way from haters who think the world revolves around them.

Re: What do you think of a Thurs. night wedding in the summer?

I have sooo many family members that are teachers, nurses, or own their own companies, so I know that many of them have flexible schedules (at least the closer family and friends). I would have to talk to other people to find out about their circumstances, but if these people can't make it, it honestly wouldn't ruin the day. It would stink if people left early, but I didn't go into depth asking about possible start/end times for a thurs.

I still have a lot of researching to do, but now I'm definitely considering Thursday as an option!

i think that as long as Thursday works for you, then go for it. Your close friends and family will work around that to be with you on your big day.

As a teacher I would have no problem with a thurs. night wedding in the summer.

I think if people wanted to be there- they would make the effort to be there. It does take extra planning and can be a bit annoying- but its your day!

I think Thursday weddings are off-putting in general.... but it seems to be a rising trend.

I think if it were someone really close... I wouldn 't mind.
