I'm a vegetarian, so we were considering having an all or mostyl vegetarian wedding. It woudlnlt be boring stuff. We'd like to find a caterer who can make creative, yummy dishes!
What would you think as a guest? Would it not be your tastes? Would you think it was cheap? Would you think it was interesting? Would you just be glad the couple was expressing their own tastes?
Thanks!

Marymoon,
again, I think you should do what makes you most comfortable. But let the guests know beforehand that the wedding will be all vegetarian. This way, if they really want meat, they can get some before they get to your wedding.
I agree!!!!

I don't think so, I think 'Vegetarian Reception to Follow' on the invitations would be fine.

I disagree - I think that it would be very considerate to let the guests know that it's going to be all vegetarian - this way there is no surprised or disapointed guests at the wedding - since they will know before hand

Posted by brooklynbridezilla But I don't think it has to be a moral decision for you to respect it.
YES!
I think this is the point here...
Going to a wedding and being 'disappointed' with anything I think is pure cr@p. People definitely have likes and dislikes but to be 'annoyed' with anything I think is pushing it. You are there to support the couple and whatever they decide to do should be good enough. If they want to do something different, let them!
Be unique! Be classy! Do the veggie thing! Open your minds ladies!!!!
My mind is definatelt open which is why as someone who hates vegetables and does not eat fish i am not limiting my guest to my likes, my dislikes nor to my moral values!
All i am saying is give people an option...so they don't starve
ETA..and as someone who is of the minority (for whatever reason) i would think that as a vegetarian you would empathize since you are usually limited yoursel

i went to a wedding once that had no alcohol for religious reasons.. and no dancing either- and let me tell you- THAT was the worst wedding ever- so I wouldn't worry about the vegetarian thing.

Re: What do you think of a vegetarian wedding?
Devil's advocate, point to ponder:
You are morally against meat, but FH is not. Yes, he eats your cooking but he will still have the grill and the meat in a fridge in the garage. Using the reasoning of morals would only apply to you since your FH does not share in those morals. He may also be for an all vegetarian reception but he would be compromising and not eating meat at the wedding for your sake, not because he is against it in any way. To reiterate, you've already mention he likes to eat meat and still will when you married. You may not serve meat to guests in your house, but FH will eat it. If you can stand FH still eating meat, why can't you do the same for your wedding guests?
But like I said in an earlier post, do what makes you happy. I'm just throwing things out there to think about.

I don't like the idea, I think it would be alittle inconsiderate as a guest. Maybe you can have the caterer offer 2 meat entrees & a really good vegetarian one.

Really? Is this written in some book that I can get from Barnes & Noble? I have read many etiquette books and have not seen anything about the little blurb 'vegetarian reception to follow' on the bottom of the invitation.

Re: What do you think of a vegetarian wedding?
I don't agree with the whole I wouldn't serve meat in my house so I won't serve it at my wedding argument. First, your FH will be preparing/grilling meat so even if he has to eat it outside, it's still part of your house/home. Second, if you took (treated) people to a meal in a restaurant that also served meat would you only allow them to order vegetarian meals?

with a kosher wedding you still have a choice between meat and vegetarian. with a vegetarian wedding you do not have the choice of eating meat.
keeping kosher is part of jewish law, or halacha. you are supposed to have a kosher wedding when getting married b/c that is what is written in jewish law.
people who keep kosher would not be be able to eat food at a non kosher wedding. non kosher people can always eat kosher food. we are having kosher meals specifically brought in for FHs family b/c they are extremely religious.
etd to add: with a kosher wedding you usually will know by the invitation, if it's being held a jewish center etc. maybe you could let your guest know that it is a vegetarian wedding in advance?
And this is actually a perfect example of accomodating your guests - you are not having the wedding at a Jewish Center or Kosher catering hall but you are providing meals for your guests that are religious.

Re: What do you think of a vegetarian wedding?
I went to a strictly vegetarian wedding at the Watermill. I didn't mind but FH was like why are we paying $$$ for a tower of vegetables??? I would suggest not doing it entirely vegetarian.

i am not a vegetarian but would view this type of reception interesting and unique. as a host i would elect to provide the broadest range of options for my guests, but as a guest i would NEVER 'complain'...

I still want to be a size 6 for my wedding. I know that has nothing to do with this conversation, but I figured I would throw it out there.

Oh, sorry. It sounded like you were stating it as fact.
