I am not sure how I feel about this. My FMIL brought me this picture and told me that she thinks she wants a dress like this for the wedding. SHe has a beautiful body, but I am thinking this is a little too much. What do you guys think? Am I over-reacting?
eta: i have to resize the pic... eta (again): i cannot seem to get the pic to work. It is the Julia Roberts Oscar dress (not the black and white one) -- champagne color, Armani, plunging neckline...

it's very pretty.....and very sexy...not sure if that's the look i'd want the MOG to be going for...but if she can pull it off.....i dont' know.....that's a tough one!

Wow! I think that's a fabulous dress for the MOG. It's not too that low cut.
I think that is a much better option for a dress than that red dress someone posted for their BM's. Now that one is too much.
I think we all like to dress our moms so that they look old instead of them dressing how they feel the most comfortable. I think that dress is classy.

it is beautiful! as long as she wears it right and appropriately then i dont see why not i dont really think the bride has much of a say of what FMIL and mom wears????? i eman sure the color you pick but the dress ....is all her....JMO

If she is comfortable, she should wear it. Just because someone is older doesn't meant they have to dress like an old fart!
How old is she? Does she look younger that her age?

thanks for the honest opinions. I know I don't have much of a say, but because there is no MOB (my mom passed away when I was a child), I feel like she wants to run the show. Does that make sense? Maybe I am over-reacting? Maybe we could go shopping together and see if we 'find' something a little less over the top?

Wow. That's all I can say. I think if she has the body to pull it off, and she wants to wear it, I don't think you should try to make her not wear it. After all, she's going to be your MIL, and I don't know if asking her to not wear it would cause an unnecessary war. If you're uncomfortable with her choice, just remember - her dress choice is a reflection on her, not you. Let people think what they want about her, and I think no matter what she wears - all eyes will still be on you and your groom!

It's a very nice dress, but I don't think it says 'mother of the groom' to me. If she was going to the oscars that would be one thing, but for a wedding...I don't really think so. There are some more traditional dresses that are very nice. I think this one is too flashy...in more ways than one. Sorry, JMO

I think it is gorgeous and if she can pull it off - all the power to her. I don't think it is too young or too sexy - I think it is pretty.
You said something about her trying to run the show - that would be a different issue. I had seen MOG's try to be center stage and want all attention on them - but don't worry I never seen them succeed.

Don't get yourself upset over your FMIL's wardrobe. - She's either going to look fabulous, or ridiculous........i'm leaning toward ridiculous b/c IMO, no matter HOW great of a body you have, there is age appropriate clothing.......ESP to your son's wedding.... But she's not your mom, and if you say something you're going to look like you're being difficult or jealous or whatever. - As long as she doesn't show up wearing white, don't lose any sleep over HER choice of clothing. - You have ENOUGH to worry about making yourself gorgeous that day !!! And even if she DOES look amazing, the talk is going to be that she's TRYING to show up the bride, and those people NEVER go over well !!

I agree. As long as its worn appropriately. My MOG wants to wear a black cocktail dress. That is the other extreme!
