Re: What do you usually give for a wedding gift??
All depends on how close we are with them and what the couple on avg has given us or friends.
I dont really believe in giving based on what kind of venue they pick b/c i dont think i should pay for someone else extravagance but id like to think we are generous.

it really depends. My financial situation was terrible a few years ago, and I gave 100 a person. Now I would give more, because I can afford more

i TRY my best to give as much as i can--but sometimes when times are tough i have given much less. i had a couple of friends who gave less than what some would consider 'acceptable' -- but i understood. i don't think the measure of your entire friendship is based on how much you give that one day...everyone's situation is different.

It all depends on where the wedding is/ who's wedding it is and also type of wedding (casual vs. black tie, etc) I would range in every category you listed on the poll!!

Exactly my thoughts !
one friend is traveling from cali to come to my wedding and has VERY little money, i told her the GIFT is her being there to spend my special day with me .

totally! i had 3 friends fly in from OOT---they had to pay hotel and airfare---i REFUSED to accept a gift from them. just didn't seem right--having them there was gift enough.

I think that it is the right thing to do in those cases , it is so expensive as it is

I couldn't vote...it really depends on how close I am with the person.

Depends on who it's for! I'd give more to my good friend than I would to a coworker...

Re: What do you usually give for a wedding gift??
i think it allll depends on so many things
how financially well off you are when is the wedding, where how close you are with them how the wedding itself is how generous were the people when attending a party for you
the list goes on and on....

Re: What do you usually give for a wedding gift??
I think it depends on a number of factors. How close I am with them and the season of the wedding.
Obviously, a wedding around June costs the bride/groom less than a wedding in Dec. Giving less than $100 in any season is just unacceptable though.

Re: What do you usually give for a wedding gift??
It definitelty depends on whose wedding it is and where.
For example, this weekend we have an afternoon wedding at a small catering hall in yonkers for friends I went to college with. Next month we have FHs cousins wedding, black tie at Leonards. Needless to say we will be giving more to FHs cousin.I would try to at least give what I think they paid per plate, if in reason of course.

Re: What do you usually give for a wedding gift??
It depends.
Like Heather said I would give more to a close friend then a co-worker.
But if it is FH and I going to a wedding- he is very generous. I think it is the Romanian in him. His family is very very generous with giving $$. They gave us what I thought was a substantial amount of $ for a wedding present just for our e-party present. So I can just imagine what they will really give as our wedding gift- and I sort of feel bad

if i cant at least cover my plate plus a little extra then i would rather not go.
if i am in the bridal party i try to give in the $500 range
