What does an engagement party entail

So my engagment party is approaching in 2weeks and I am getting a little nervous..not too sure why.
What happens at an enagement party?
Is there anything fun we can do to entertain our guest? Someone recommedated playing games but I dont want it to get a little tacky..Any suggestions would help. We are not having the usual sit down dinner kind of engagement party, it will be at a local lounge.

Nothing really happens LOL guests just eat, drink, and mingle! If you are having it at a lounge I wouldn't worry about entertaining guests w/ things, they will mingle and have a good time - its a party!

We just had mine last weekend! we didnt plan anything except provide food and drinks! everyone mingled, ate, talked, and had dessert.. it was a lot of fun getting everyone together!

I think it's just a chance for both sides to get to meet each other.

Engagement parties are definitely a good way of getting the sides together. If anyone out there hasn't had one yet, be forewarned - don't have a contest between the groom's family and the bride's family, or else it'll end up awkward! (from experience)
